The Outcast Guardian 2.0 - Chapter 1: Origin of Vengeance
This will be part of a flashback taking place over the next few chapters
Wraith had been one of the original 6 Guardians chosen to enter The Plaguelands to end the remainder of the Devil Splicer's leadership. Along with The Guardian and Wraith, there was Tenebra-4, a distant and reclusive Exo Warlock who was often wrapped up in her studies, Wilhelm, a jovial mustachioed Hunter who was often short on glimmer, having spent most of it on post-mission drinks for him and his Fireteam, Jade, a fairly new Hunter, but deadly accurate with her sniper rifle, and Caedus, an Awoken Warlock from The Reef with whom Wraith shared a long-standing hatred. Caedus hated Wraith because he humiliated the warlock before. Wraith hated Caedus because he was a narcissistic idiot fixated on gaining power and influence often through underhanded means. There were a number of objections brought up at his inclusion, but ultimately it was decided that he would stay. Wraith decided to just go along with it and try and complete the mission with minimal conflict. The raid started off well enough. They got the door opened and were in the wall in no time. After jumping across some makeshift platforms, they arrived at the lair of the Archpriest. Things got a lot harder soon after. Splicers poured in like a flood, giving the team barely enough time to bring down Vosik's shield. After what felt like hours of combat, the Guardians had nearly won. The Splicer leader was almost dead, but the screens suddenly all glowed signaling the approaching presence of a wave of SIVA that would kill them if they didn't get to a saferoom in time. Tenebra, Wilhelm, Jade, Caedus, and the Guardian made it in, but while Wraith ran to the final saferoom, Caedus prematurely locked the room. As Wraith beat on the forcefield, Caedus switched to a private channel between him and Wraith. "I didn't close the door accidentally. Goodbye, idiot." Wraith was shocked by how far Caedus's grudge went and barely noticed as the SIVA blast consumed him. Hours later, Wraith opened his eyes and sat up from his place lying on the floor of the Archpriest's lair. He shook his head, then the memories came rushing back. "That son of a- he tried to kill me! Wait, Ghost? Ghost?" His Ghost then spoke to him from across the room. "I'm here. Wraith, Something isn't right." "Wait, what do you mean?" asked Wraith. "Your armor. It's different. And I can't feel the Light" Wraith suddenly felt very afraid. "Without the Light, how was I revived?" "I don't know, but we have to get out before anything bad happens." Wraith agreed. "Let's head to the City. We're going to find Caedus, and we're going to have a bit of a talk." *Meanwhile in The Shattered Helm, Guardian bar* "To Wraith." said Wilhelm. "To Wraith." everyone chanted. Everyone downed their drinks. "Wherever he is, I hope he's at peace." said Jade. Behind them, a voice spoke out. "I'm right here, and I'm not feeling very peaceful." Wilhelm fell out of his chair, Tenebra dropped her glass, Jade screamed in surprise, The Guardian jumped, and Caedus choked on his drink and went pale. Wraith slightly smiled. "Relax. It's just me." "What...? How...?" Wraith's smile died. "If I knew, I would tell you. But first, Caedus, you and I need to talk." A worried expression flashed across Caedus 's face. "Look, I'm sorry for locking you out of the room. But I panicked, it was an accident, and you obviously survived, right? So, please, let's go our separate ways." Wraith's crimson eyes had no joy in them as he spoke his next words. "As much as I would love to never see your petty blue face again, you cost me something very valuable, and you and I will settle our differences." "Whoa there, you two, calm down," said Jade. "Wraith, what did you lose?" "I lost my light," growled Wraith. "And it wasn't an accident." "What?!" cried Caedus, "Are you calling me a liar?!" The Guardian spoke up at last. "Do you have evidence?" he asked evenly. "I do," stated Wraith. "He created false evidence! He hated me before, and he's using this accident as an excuse to attack me!" shouted Caedus. Wraith lost his temper at that point. "Oh for the love of- SHUT UP!" *Thunk!* Everyone screamed in shock. "How'd your arm morph into a sword?!" shouted Tenebra. "It's not just my arm," growled Wraith as he yanked his bladed arm out of the table. "My Ghost, my armor, all changed. Watch." Everyone watched in fear as his bladed arm changed back into his normal hand. But his armor was different. The armor was black and angular, with red cables wrapping around the limbs. "SIVA's consumed you!" Jade shouted. "You think I don't know that?!," yelled Wraith. "Caedus locked me out of the safe room, and I was turned into this thing! A barely cohesive swarm of nanotech! And all of this from an attempt to kill me. Ghost, play the recording." "Already on it, Wraith." The private channel conversation played out, and everyone turned toward Caedus. "Well Caedus," Wilhelm said softly, suddenly brandishing a knife, "What do you have to say to that?" Caedus gulped. "Uhh, goodbye." Caedus ran.
