I would assume it's lag. In PvP Scorch for Sunsinger is notorious for registering hits a few seconds late at time. If you have the shield up already and are dying with it still up that's weird. Are you taking damage and the shield has no reaction?

Correct, i take health damage despite having the shield. This also happens in pve, atleast for me.
