Material Selling... a lost art?

So, with the latest update, I have become very nostalgic of the days when I could sell stacks of 50 materials for quite a few hefty bonuses (250 glimmer, 5 marks, reputation and XP). Am I the only one?

  • Well let's talk about the most irrelevant piece of shit thing in the game...... ASCENDANT MATERIALS! (Sorry, caps would make the point better lol). Seriously the most useless shit now. So useless, I skip every chest in VOG. Except exotic chest, obviously.

    • Problem is, when they made the PvPer's happy because they didn't have to go look for marks, they screwed it up for the rest of us. And to all those who complained, I look forward to being on you're team when I get matched in the Crucible, because I suck at PvP so you're going to lose. Have fun!

      • As for selling materials I am all for it. I am not a PVP player but I am not a farmer either. I just enjoy doing bounties and running around planet side, most of the time I go past random materials now but still have piles of them. Maybe Bungie could do a monthly buy back day so the vendors could restock. So do not give me crucible rank, do not really care, I am happy with some faction rep.

      • If it ain't broken , DON'T FIX IT. That's why the parachute for airborne operations has changed little since WWII. The economic system was flawed, now it is broken. Humanity is down to one city. These items are rare, valuable and neccasary comodities to humanity's survival and are all deep behind enemy lines. I can only store so many, 200/slot. Unlike Sapphire wire, plasteel, hardonic essence, and weapon parts. Thank God for that, since I have 2300 I'll never use and about 600 weapon parts. Am I to believe that with humanity's survival at stake it is prefered I discard these items or cease in gathering them for the City. Glimmer gets ships , emblems , ammo syns, shaders, and thats about it. Keep in mind the little amount of storage slots you have and caps at 25k. 75% of the things I've purchased have been discarded or scraped for nada. Constantly have to chose between what I like/want to what I need. Seems odd I get nothing for ships, truly rare and valuable but really worthless as it is just the load screen wallpaper...prettier and more exciting then spinning disc and such, but other than that just a lot of unplayable coding. Should get VGmarks, Strange Coins or Motes of Light, no? It's a spaceship for Pete's sake. Motes of Light were once accepted by Xur for certian items, now no more...why? I can only get cloaks or emblems with them now, just how many do I need? Again restricted by storage slots anyways. Why do factions only accept crucible marks? I can get rep with them doing VG patrols and bounties. Not to mention they say they pay for what you do on their patrols , yet all you get is rep?? Should be then I earn rep with the VG and the faction posting it, double if it is your faction and a bonus if you wear their cloak and emblem too. We are at war and things that flourish in war are death, diasease, and evryones favorite debauchery. Where are the bars, prostitutes, and blackmarket?? My guardian bears witness to and commits many atrocities and needs a place to blow off some steam!!! I want to see him passed out in puddle of vomit or wake up next to a female Exo, or Ikora.

        • They did it for a reason. To prevent you from converting Vanguard <-> Crucible marks. Bungie has decided that Crucible should be separate from everything else in Destiny, and they're adamant to enforce this.

Yeah I wish the option was still there! Since I detest pvp on consoles I liked the option to get crucible marks that way, plus it was nice for extra glimmer and xp. I used to farm rocket yard for spinmetal then trade it in. I got so much spin metal now since not much seems to use it.

          • The option was removed from the game because of the fact that people would farm for hours to get 100 crucible marks. And never step foot in the crucible. Bungie does not want that to be an option

            • I really do miss there ability to sell my extra material. I'm still waiting to be able to receive something in return when I scrap a ship. After all, that's allot of material in those ships

            • I would like to be able to sell off all of the "extra" materials (class materials, resources, ships, sparrows, etc) that I build up, if only for Rep points. After all, the City is basically a "Die Hard" colony. Every resource is needed. So each vendor / faction, including Vanguard and Crucible, should be willing to purchase the various materials in order to make the various stuff that they sell. If the player only gets a few Rep points per 100 units of material, no one is "encouraged" to farm, but yet has a reasonable way to offload the materials.

              • I think everyone actually misses that. It's nice to have the option to do both. I also think they should change the weekly cap a bit, it can still be 100 per week, from PE, strikes nightfall etc. but still let us get marks from trading in mats so we can potentially go over the 100 mark cap.

              • No i am missing that feature too because i have a vault full of materials i cant do much with.I was planning to write on this issue until i found your post. My idea is that Bungie reinstates the ability to sell your materials but tie this to the ability to purchase materials. Call it a living inventory for materials where the stock is limited to how much others sell. Lets say 1000 people sell one each spirit bloom so that means there is 1000 for others to purchase and when that is gone it is marked out of stock until others sell their extra materials for marks glimmer rep and xp. This will keep the people who enjoy farming in business and help those who need marks glimmer rep and xp get it and those who just want to purchase the materials get them quick. If this is not possible Bungie should at the least reinstate the ability to sell materials for those who need and like it. I also had another idea, what about a materials trade, people who have too much of one item can trade it for another through the quartermasters but at a 2 to 1 ratio. Lets say you trade 2 spin-metal for one relic iron and so on.

                • No its a good thing they did this. Now i dont have to waste my time farming for materials, i can just do a couple strikes and then pay 10arls for 20 materials. Imo farming was the most boring thing about this game, it starts out fun when farming but after youve done a lap around the area and only come up with 12 materials is just a disappintment. Now i can do strikes (that give the same perks as handing in 50 materials) and get materials in return.

                  • I want it back too. It gave purpose to actively seek out materials and loot chests during game time. Now that i have an abundance of every material, searching for stuff has become completely eliminated for me....I would rather run around for hours searching for things than do the same strike over and over again for vanguard marks.

                  • Agreed. I think there are more than less of players like us. I have a post with a lot of the same types of replies. Makes no sense why they removed an alternative way to level and purchase stuff. Now 80% of the vendors are useless unless you PvP. I enjoy grinding in farming way more than grinding in PvP. You should read some of the vile hatred replies by PvP lovers in my post. So far got over 2,000 replies. Some of the anti-farming replies are quite funny with their reasoning. Summarizing the replies against our enjoyment: PvP is the backbone of Destiny, farming is stupid, it isn't even considered playing. Shut up and die scumbag.

                    • As a software developer, the golden rule has always been that you never remove functionality that even a small faction of your customer base as become accustom to utilizing. So I find it crazy that Bungie removed the ability to sell materials for crucible or vanguard marks. I sympathize with those who hate the crucible but want a way to attain crucible weapons. We are now screwed and it means this game has lost a major appeal for me. What the hell were you thinking Bungie?

                    • I only used the mats for crucible marks because I found the crucible to be too slow for crucible marks, especially when I can work on bounties and patrol missions while farming. Maybe as a compromise they can let us trade in excess armor parts (plating, essence, wire or whatever it's called) for marks now, although I wish they had left the mats for marks alone and instead added armor/weapon parts for mats. I just really want an option for getting rid of the 1500+ essence I have acquired.

                    • I just do not care for crucible play. Not trying to start a rant. I just do not like it. Farming gave me a way to buy the stuff I want without having to endure time wasted there. Being able to buy materials let's those not interested in pve to move forward, selling materials allowed those not interested in crucible to do the same. With this update I will opt not to buy the coming expansion. If I wanted a pvp game there are many superior to destiny.

                      • Totally Agree. We need this back in. My vault has hundreds of accumulated materials, and I will run out of space soon. Each time I complete something, I now get more from Bungie as a "gift" I guess - but you can't do ANYTHING with them - except delete them. Is the City / Tower so rich in materials now that they can afford to sell them back to us?? And they may as well get rid of the Chests and Materials on the ground (i.e. Relic Iron Shard, Bloom on plants, Spin Metal, Helium). Since Dec update, I have stopped looking in any of the chests or picking up materials anymore - no point at all accumulating more crap I can't do anything with. We can just get stuff from killing creatures as RNG drops or Glimmer bonus, right? So the game just dropped another dimension and slides down the slope to being COD (shoot things - cause there are no puzzles or mysteries or easter eggs left to find). Becoming less happy with Bungie each and every day..

                        • I liked being able to turn in excess materials for marks and experience, especially if I was just a few marks away from getting the gear I wanted. Not gonna lie, after grinding through the same 5 or 6 Strikes for 3 characters worth of Vanguard armor, I'm not a huge fan of Strike Playlists. If only they had BOTH selling AND buying of materials...

                        • I almost stopped playing because of this. I cant stand crucible any longer, its so boring. 2 marks for a loss and 3 for a win it"s intolerable and no loot. I actually like looking for materials more than playing crucible. They changed it because people didn't want to put the work in and look for materials. It takes longer and its harder than playing crucible. If you cant find 16 mats in 15 min than your an idiot. Sorry. Who's stupid enough to spend marks on mats anyways?
