We can go faster or even as fast as light when we have even the slightest amount of mass. It's simply not possible. Plus when you think about it FTL is pretty slow. Something that is a thousand or a hundred or even 1 lightyear away would still take that amount of time if you were traveling at the speed of light. You would have to go about 16 times faster than light to even make it worth it. Then you have the problem of somehow getting rid of all physical mass. The amount of energy to do both on one ship is so massive that the ship would use up too many resources just to move. Worm holes or warping/teleportation would be much easirer and would require less energy. All you have to do is punch two holes in space time and make sure they don't close.
