No. Being desensitized to gore, or violence is not a good thing. People are less likely to react to violent things because they've seen it all before. This issue is partly to blame in all the recent shootings, and I'm sure others before the recent string. When you're desensitized to a certain point, you can deal out violence without thinking or feeling anything about your actions. This is also a tool used by the media, like I said, the more you see it, the less likely you'll be upset by it. What causes all sorts of atrocities and other fun stuff? Wars. And since we're all accustomed to seeing so much gore and violence nowadays, we don't bitch as much when our country heads off to a useless war.

  • Well, we certainly do bitch and moan about useless wars. Please understand the desensitization to gore does not mean violence has less meaning. I'm not going to say it holds more meaning, but please tell me where desensitization means I care less about people? Serial killers and spree killers, by their very nature are desensitized to gore. Serial killers date back to even before Jack the Ripper. I just think that desensitization is important for people to be able to respond to any incident where someone may have serious injury. I imagine a doctor would consider themselves desensitized, but we consider them one of the most important aspects to a healthy, happy life. So they must care for life, yes? Sorry about the disjointed rebuttal, it's late here. I got my point across though.
