Gotta be mid Feb I reckon. There's meant to be a Sony state of play very soon, I'd expect some marketing then & a date. They've not really marketed Marathon outside of social media & in destiny circles & YouTube, so maybe that's when marketing to the masses begins, terrestrial TV etc
Thks week's server testing is probably linked to that going live in a few weeks.

Don't be surprised if Sony buys a super bowl ad slot. Marathon is a bigger deal for Sony.

How did advertising go for concord? I've no idea but it's a similair priced game & an FPS shooter & I know they expected a lot from it as far as creating lore & TV series for it, but I don't recall seeing advertising

Concord was 10 years late to the party. I don't remember any advertising honestly

thats how I found about D2 btw > superbowl ad... interesting timing you might be on to something except that... at the time D2 was offering free-to-play... unless they plan to announce that shift for Marathon it may not be worth 15-30Mill just guessing... -

Yeah that's what I'm thinking, superbowl adds are ££££$$$$$ but I guess if they want it top 5 seller, who knows. I just don't believe they've confidence enough in the game yet, but could be a good call.

There's supposed to be a Sony state of play pretty soon so they've gotta show it there, right? We basically know very little about it. There's a few clips doing the rounds were a bungie dev says marathon isn't a hero shooter, they aren't hero's, it's an extraction shooter. So a guy uses 4-5 sources to find the exact wording of a hero shooter, then plays another clip of the same dev talking about 'shells' & he described every keyword of what makes a hero shooter. These guys are Devs & don't even know that extraction is a genre, & hero shooter is a sub genre. It feels like this is being pushed out to hit dates & get paid, then bounce. Bungie could be a ghost town when bonuses are paid out in the coming months. Sure leave Sony in rough spot, 2 live games & no staff, on an engine no one can use.

its too bad that anyone feels constricted by needing to be in a genre... extract could have been a portion of what you do in that game loop and it would seem like a bigger game.. ... it just seems like an endless loop of of the same activity instead of a living world that evolves or has options as the VISIONARY(s) behind the game and passionate about the project chooses.. which is sad to me because I think the look and story of the game is something that could be written into a bigger game world...eh.. I heard someone report that marathon hasn't really been promoted yet. I expect a full blitz of advertising soon.
