35 and still bs apartment renting here. I agree it sucks. I feel like I'm throwing away money every month when I could be paying my way down on a mortgage. Homes in my area are upwards to a million smackaroos these days. Still a few years off until I can put down a decent down payment though, what with the student loans debt that I'm going to be paying off until I'm 65(at least Im finally making enough to pay my bills now)- and the looming problems of inflation. The good news is my car should be paid off in about 4-5 months, and it's a Toyota camry that should run until judgment day if I take care of it. But there's always the odd emergency. *inhales*
It's Insane
I'm making more money than I ever have, and I still feel like I'm just a profit pig for men much more wealthy and powerful than I, and my head is just above the water. I have always been one catastrophic accident or job loss away from further financial ruin. But with good choices, I'm learning to balance a budget properly at long last, and im building a cushion of money against ruin slowly while paying my bills and chipping down my debt. Point is it's the same way I felt when I was struggling to pay the flop house to keep them from throwing me out, and the way I felt sleeping in my car when eventually the bed bugs did it anyways. It's hard to see, but Tl;dr: Keep your eyes up, my dude, and don't let the world grind you down, grind back. We're all feeling it who live out here on our own! :)

 •
35 and still bs apartment renting here.
My oldest son is about your age, and just got a house a couple years ago for way more than it was worth, and needed a months worth of overhauling by 6 of us off an on to make it decent and working inside. It suck out there enough for us who already established homes. I can't imagine having to start out in today's ridiculous economy. My youngest still has yet to launch on his own, but that'll be likely the same scenario. Houses are scarfed up rapidly once they're put up for sale around here. Flimsy flippers and rental slum lords are far too prevalent, let alone real estate overlords. They walk in with cash in hand not giving people who are trying to find a home and balance life at the same time a chance. The only reason my oldest got the house he did, was because he and his fiancé were the first to see it. I get land sharks trying to text and call me about my house at least once every other week.... I can't stand em. I don't even know how they got my cell number.
I'm just a profit pig for men much more wealthy and powerful than I, and my head is just above the water. It's hard, but still life is more than a credit score.

Truth; be a force for good in the lives of your loved ones, your friends, and also strangers, OP, and it makes the struggle worth the strain.
