Am I the only one who struggled throught the Campaign?

Honestly, maybe I'm getting old or I just suck, who knows? I went throught the Lightfall Campaign changing gear with what the game gave to me in order to avoid wasing Upgrade Materials before reaching the Soft Cap, so basically with Blue/Purple Armor-Weapons. Sometimes a Sword, then a Sidearm, a Shotgun ecc. Always done that since Forsaken, never had problems. After all this is just the main Campaign! You should just enjoy it, follow the story, the events I guess. Man, Lightfall campaign was such a pain! I was always 20-30 points under my enemies getting recked by red bar dudes while my Weapons seemed to shot confetti. Took years to kill a bunch of minions. I was always running away from everything. My Abilities cool down took forever to recharge. Tried to get a trip around Neomuna to follow a side quest gave me from Nimbus. Enemies on Patrol ONE SHOTTED ME. I don't know how many times I've died during Osiris Strand training simulation with the Vex against the boss. During the Strike I was doing kinda ok, but enemies hit me so hard. I got it: you wanted to make the game HARDER. Cool. But this is just he main Campaign! Was it really necessary to do such a thing even with it? And luckily I decided to play it at normal difficulty and not Legend.

It’s awful. Let’s make the game substantially harder, while at the same time stripping away a large portion of the build-crafting that was making the game “too easy.” Instead of jumping immediately into the chopped up and strangely written story and legendary campaign that I had been looking forward to, I’m spending 20-40 minutes reading through the new mods and trying to figure out how to make any one of my favorite builds work at least somewhat similarly to what I am used to. For the love of all that is holy, I am so tired of listening to Osiris whine. I’d much rather have had him sacrifice himself in some way last season than Rasputin. All Osiris seems concerned with is proving he was right. The writing in this expansion (I can’t speak for the season because I’m so disappointed in the way things have been handled in the opening bits of the expansion I am struggling to bring myself to play and have yet to play any Defiance stuff) is just terrible, and the frequency with which I am having to re-listen to the dialogue because of the difficulty of the missions…I’m contemplating turning the voices off for the first time ever. Some of Osiris lines feel like they let a teenager loose with a thesaurus. If I have to hear Osiris tell me to ignore Calus’ bloviating too many more times while I’m dying or respawning in that cursed mission I think I’m gonna lose it. I’m only on the 3rd or 4th campaign mission, and I can’t stand whatever bizarre processing they did to Nimbus’ voice. Sounds like they’re talking around 3 or 4 pebbles in their mouth and then add electronic dissonance to the mix. I hate having to talk to them to get bounties/missions. It just grates on my ears. I wandered into the room with the Radial Mast (on Legend, by myself, the same as i did in Witch Queen), took a few minutes to look over the room for potential cover, note circles I’ll have to stand in to spawn the energy balls, drop a raid flag and move towards the first circle. A group of 5 enemies spawn directly on top of me, while another 5 or 6 drop down from above. I die. Rinse and repeat another 15 times with incremental gains in survival time. Switched out all weapons that require aiming (bows, snipers) for auto fire and/or high splash damage weapons. There is almost literally never any time to stop and breathe. Constantly having to find those GD tracking, exploding purple balls the taken can release at a ridiculous rate, and those 2 taken always respawn. The enemies never stop pouring in. The enemies have perfect aim with every shot and every grenade and what feels like increased rate of fire. And then, if you’re really unlucky, the perfect aim snipers sync up and all fire at the same time and you just vaporize. I can’t even begin to imagine how awful champions will be with their even more ridiculously increased ability spamming… Long story short, well I guess not really, the story isn’t engaging enough to make enduring the sheer, ridiculous amount of “make it harder” work the parts of this game that I used to enjoy challenging myself with worth my time, energy or frustration. I’ve never even contemplated returning an expansion or season before, but I am, I am… Bungie, I’ve loved this game much more than hated it since I started shortly after D1 release. You tried to do too much, all at once, and this doesn’t even feel like the Destiny I loved to play anymore. Legendary campaign in Witch Queen was challenging and enjoyable, Legendary campaign in Lightfall is torturous punishment. What on earth were you guys thinking? Sorry for the wall of text guys. I’m just struggling to understand the thought processes that brought this about, and I process by writing my thoughts down. I think it may be time for a break.

      • The Campaign is irritating and boring and strand makes everything worse. The washing machine makes you go back and do all that jumping again if you die, because some little dork at Bungle thinks it's funny. Bullet sponges in tiny locked rooms are no fun. A yellow bar that takes hundreds of rounds to kill isn't fun, it's lazy design! Why the hell build a giant city and not use it? There are plenty of big open spaces for a boss fight. I did the Seraph Spire solo Legendary flawless so I'm not asking for easy, just reasonable and challenging. And something Bungle doesn't understand; fun.

        • I consider myself an above average player, and admittedly, my play style of being overly aggressive did make the campaign frustratingly difficult. Especially the new stomp mechanic from trash ads that push you across the map from 100 feet away. But above all else, the unnecessarily long range of the Tormentor's needs to be nerfed. I don't mind the void debuff, or that suction move they pull - they should either be tanky and slow, or fast and squishy. There is absolutely no reason one Tormentor should be able to take all 7 rockets to get down to finishable.

          • Yeah the difficulty was annoying, it was forced difficulty too. Oh you haven't ground for the high number gear? DIE. I had to stop mid campaign, grind out some gear, come back when I hit the right power level, hit another roadblock, leave, grind some more, etc. It would have been nice to go start to finish without the artificial bovine scatology getting in the way.

          • Arbalest, Minitool and Taipan. You don't need anything else. Or Striga, Fusion rifle and Taipan. I soloed up until Calus and couldn't make it pass his second phase. Worse story than Witch Queen but way easier.

          • this is apparently Bungie's new plan, always have players be underleveled. And IF you are having trouble or a friend is struggling & you want to help them you just go out to open world, level up a bit, come back in to help that friend and...... ohhh you are still underleveled. That's insane. The opposite of RPG and Power Fantasy. I hope they reverse this when players leave.

          • And you see the same old issues here, lots of of folk agreeing, but also some playing the typical get gud garbage.. The skill level difference in a game this old is immense, it is already a game where there are lots of things a long term player can and will do that newer ones can't. So now, difficulty has been just turned from about 6 to 10. All you do there as usual is cater to the elite and ruin the experience for the vast majority elite

          • I did most of the campaign with a fireteam and found it ok, but spent an hour solo in REGULAR trying to do the last mission. I avoided Strand at all costs because I needed all my abilities just to stay alive. I remember the days of being able to solo the campaign no problem and enjoy the hell out of it…

            • Final encounter is annoyingly designed. Tormentors too. They were absolutely running me down in some places. They are extremely aggressive, and faster on foot than you.

              • Yeah I don’t know man. I was over the light level constantly 🤷‍♂️ and I was playing on legendary. I didn’t even have to think about or grind for gear. Played every mission one right after the other.

              • That’s what I’m saying, what’s the point of adding legendary mode if they’re just gonna increase the difficulty of classic to be annoyingly difficult when I’m playing classic to enjoy and take in the story. The final boss fight feels like a raid boss-I’ve spent over an hour and a half and died 25 times and I still haven’t beat it yet. All the other campaigns have been so easy and I’ve been able to get the boss in one try so why is this so freaking hard all of a sudden

                • I personally steamrolled the whole campaign with my solar build on my warlock. I used the rain of fire and the vex mythoclast so I was radiant 24/7 and my build allowed me to also stay on restoration x2 as long as I was killing enemies. Against bosses I always had a healing nade ready. No lie the whole campaign was a breeze until I reached calus. Calus was the only time where I had to actually get a friend to help me out. Its not like the actual fight was hard, its the damn boops from every enemy constantly pushing me off the map. It was the most annoying thing and my most deaths. As soon as I got a friend to help me out we killed calus easily. Back to the topic, it makes sense why it would be hard for a lot of the more casual players but anyone that makes a build can easily steamroll the whole campaign until you reach calus.

                • I found it to be the complete opposite, Witch Queen was a nightmare on Legendary. Took hours to complete some missions, Lightfall was a breeze in comparison

                  • The Calus hard is pretty hard imo but once you’ve got his move set down it’s pretty easy. Also I would highly recommend using strand at the end as that’s what. I used, I used hawkmoon, shotty, lmg I pretty much used my lmg as a primary in the boss room killing all but 1 psi on and legionary then all I did was rotate between the railings on the sides of the room, the grapple really comes in handy imo as it allows you to constantly escape the tormentors when they come. I’m titan so whichever side of legionaries was throwing the grenades I would barricade off and spent the entire time sat behind the small cover on either sides of the room popping out only in between his shots. He has a charged up shot that will 1 shot you, the caretaker things that will track you (lmg is extremely helpful for these and taking care of ads) and the pervading darkness airstrike things. This imo is the most deadly of his attacks as it doesn’t let you stay in one place which is what caused me to stop trying to do it sentinel and try strand which is what I finally finished it with. As soon as I saw the pervading darkness pop up on the side of the screen I just grappled onto the green balls to the others side of the room and rinse and repeat same for the tormentors if they got too close but hawkmoon x7 is very helpful for them. 2nd phase is extremely easy compared to the first as all you have to do is just keep grappling to the other side of the room, hawkmoon x7 is very helpful for this as the unlimited ammo Good luck and hopefully it works out just listing what I did in case you wanted any ideas.

Are you playing the normal version or legend? I’m soloing legend with limited time and I’m half way through. It’s a challenge but I’d be done on normal.
