Collapse Lore

One thing I keep seeing (or not seeing) is the fruition of story on the Collapse. We have a mountain of lore that My Name is Byf and Myelin Games both have fleshed out for us, yet Bungie seems to never touch it. Nothing of Shin Malfur, nothing of the seraph frames, the Veil, the strange nature of the Darkness poison that suffocated life on Earth (was it Blight?), among many other things. To their credit, they touched on “the day the collapse happened, the sky filled with darkness, and the second day, the traveler fell.” But that is about it. Dear Bungie: please develop a lore gathering secret mission. One that gives a “memory” of the collapse, like what Assassins Creed 2 did with “the Truth” cutscenes.

  • Shin Malphur was born after the collapse and his story it’s pretty much finished, we received the original LW and he helped to craft Lumina while he remained as a Shadow of Yor hunting down corrupted guardians wielding stasis.

  • The whole point is that we don’t know much about the collapse, it makes sense gameplay wise and logically as realistically you wouldn’t really have any records of what happened if everything got wiped out

  • I’m curious, whatdoes Shin have to do with the Collapse? The Collapse couldn’t be fleshed out for a reason, the Darkness. When D2 released, Bungie stated in a vidoc that they hadn’t decided what it was yet. Thats because it didn’t exist before. The Dark power was just corrupted Light. The Darkness baddie was just an Uber lightbearer. There was no Darkness god. The Gardner/Traveler was the only god and the source of both. Hence the Ulan-Tan angle. That’s also why there was so much forced mystery about the Collapse. Because they couldn’t hint at much without giving away the Traveler was the bad guy. The Winnower wasn’t implemented until SK and since then the emphasis has been on setting up the ending. They explained why the Dark side didn’t finish off the Traveler. That was the only real mystery left.

  • The veil were a hope from fans that was created from concept art of d1, in short they aren’t a part of the game

  • They just leave open ended storylines everywhere with no planned resolutions and pick up one here or there occasionally. It would be pretty difficult to tie up every loose end at this point - especially satisfactorily.
