The problem with map voting is that you will be forced to only play a small selection of maps ALL the time because people will vote for the same maps every single time and that's how people get bored and stop playing PvP in other games. It's exactly what killed PvP in other games because people got tired of playing the same 3 maps over and over and never having enough variety. You want to completely kill PvP by decreasing the number of players dramatically because they're all bored and in turn, create even worse connection issues? Implement map voting. This is literally the worst idea you can have for PvP and it's just silly to think anything different.

For example, right now we have every 3-6h a change in map selection algorithm, switching maps around in the pre-selection. Now, if certain maps would be only available during specific time frames, it could work. For example for 3-6h Dead Cliffs is in the 3-maps-selection and after reset none of the maps that were in the selection before are taken over the 3 maps from the previous rotation and so on.

  • They should've honestly just gotten rid of the least popular maps and created more maps to replace them. I don't mind having 25 different maps if most of them are fun to play in. I also don't mind changing up my gear and working to get better at the different ranges and angles of the different maps. That's a part of PvP alot of more casual players don't think to do. Their favorite submachine gun isn't gonna be nearly as useful in vastly longer range maps and the map doesn't necessarily suck because they're not good at playing to the map's strengths and weaknesses. This is literally why we have builds, different perks on weapons, different scopes and different guns. Sometimes it's not the map that sucks, it's the player that sucks.
I also don't mind changing up my gear and working to get better at the different ranges and angles of the different maps.
Well, I don't. Imo every map should be designed to have the same numbers of designated range lanes so that every weapon can shine on their respective lane within their range. The only map that does this well imo is Burnout/Black Shrine from D1.

  • If I can use the same exact loadout for every map, where's the incentive to try different builds and guns? I'd just be able to hang out in the parts of the map that I'm most effective with my guns in and camp for easy kills. I think there should be alot of variety in the maps that require different loadouts, I get excited when some maps come up because I'm like oh nice, time to pull out X gun or switch to X build. I just think they didn't put enough thought into some maps because the angles are lazily done and the bottlenecks and lanes aren't interesting enough.

  •
where's the incentive to try different builds and guns?
That should come from the player itself, not because the game forces you to do it.
I'd just be able to hang out in the parts of the map that I'm most effective with my guns in and camp for easy kills.
If every map would be balanced like Burnout, then you can't really do that. Burnout is probably the best balanced map for all weapon types (tho the community favors to play what is strong right now).

I should fabricate my own enthusiasm to play different builds instead of Bungie making the game built to actually support that there's builds? Why would you give players the ability to create builds and then make it so builds are completely pointless Lol... Now you're just being contrary because you don't want to be wrong. Like... Did you actually just hear yourself...
Why would you give players the ability to create builds and then make it so builds are completely pointless
That's not what I said, but ok. What I said is, that every map should support every gun type equally. That means that every map should have enough spaces, areas and lanes so that every gun type can be used the same amount and the same effective way. For example Bannerfall. On Bannerfall the spawn areas, the Buildings on A and C and the cover and doors on B allow for close range weapon play. The Piazza on the map next to the tree stump and the walkways at spawn allows for long range weapon play. Since the game is literally divided in long range and close range play, both areas are covered equally in space size. Now take a map like Conjunction. Only some hallways at the spawns and the tunnels beneath the middle and maybe Zone B are good for close range weapon gunfights. Everything else favors heavily long range weapon. On a number basis I would say that the map is 70% long range and 30% close range designed, while Bannerfall and Burnout are around 50/50.

  • Every map can't be like bannerfall. Like I said. There are different options for that reason. Sounds like you want to be able to just use that one loadout you enjoy and you want all maps to be able to accommodate it so you don't ever have to leave your comfort zone with those weapons you're good with. There's gonna be maps that are mostly long range, there's gonna be maps that are mostly short range and there's gonna be maps that are mostly mid range and there's gonna be maps that are a mixture of all of them. You're just gonna have to get good with different builds and guns so you can switch up and adapt. That's it. If every map was similar to bannerfall, things would get boring pretty quickly.
