I wouldn’t be able to name a source however, I think I remember hearing something about Calus becoming “deformed” because of his relationship with the witness or something.

Yeah, I recall this too from the old Lore sources. We know that a certain point he started using automas instead to show himself, so defintely something happend to his original form.
