In terms of primary weapons scouts are in a really good spot. Polaris Lance can 1 tap a lot of things that couldn't prior to the scout buff (Acolytes and a couple other things). I wouldn't mind a buff to make it one tap goblins and hop hopgoblins. It comes down to how tanky bungie wants enemies to be. Like do they think a harpy should have more health then a Acolyte or dreg? Compared to pulse rifles and auto rifles they auto perform them. Handcannons can 1 tap a lot of things but that's expected, as they have to be up closer to fight. But the downside is actually lower dps. https://www.blueberries.gg/weapons/destiny-2-dps-weapons/ According to this chart handcannons never went past 3000 dps while scouts never go below 3000 dps. Auto rifles never went below 3000 dps while pulse rifles never went over 3000 dps. When I bring up dps I'm referring to the average dps number shown on the chart. Dps isn't just for bosses but for higher health majors as well. Which in that case you would use a special weapon to kill but you don't always have a special weapon. So you might go for a primary weapon. If you go for a primary weapon you need to determine if lower number of shots to kill will be faster than higher number of shots to kill under the condition that the rate of fire is faster. If the first is true then a handcannon is your best option. If the 2nd is true a scout or a auto rifle is your friend. The main reason that scouts and most primary weapons may seem to struggle is because of the pve crit multiplier change in shadowkeep when finishers were introduced. Bungie has stated they don't plan to revert this change.

  • The hard part is trying to get that 100% recoil direction, high range & stability plus Explosive Payload roll. What an effing grind! And the RNG....🤪🤪🤪 But I do have : 1. Hung Jury 2. Night Watch 3. Vouchsafe Bring on the buffs! Using these three scouts is like being on Permanent Rampage x1.5!

  • I wouldn't say they are in a really good spot but they for sure are in a better spot compared to how they've been in the past.

Even if all this is accurate it doesn’t take into account the champion mods which is what ever season revolves around. It can take 2 clips for a lot of auto rifles to bring down a barrier champion, where as it takes 1 clip in other weapons in other seasons. That along shows that autos lack single clip dps compared to other weapon types which is why ARs are considered to be the weakest type right now. Scouts vs bows? That comparison is fine to me as bows fire slower so they have a higher precision damage. But end game content that requires certain weapons, there is still a clear distinction of what weapons are better for dps and champions. ARs suck. Edit: rereading that list you gave, I’ve definitely done more boss damage with some heavies that, by the chart should be doing less than others. That goes for most all the primaries as well.

  • Great explanation. If only people would evaluate in this way instead of by feel. Feel just doesn't tell the story. I don't use sidearmsbecause they feel weak.. but, that doesnt' mean they ARE weak. Just that the sound and result for me feels bad so I choose not to use them. This is a me thing not a bungie thing and I know it.

They require close range but can kill really quickly and out dps most other primary weapons. Smgs are really good as well. Ehroar has a couple good videos on sidearms and how much damage they can put out. https://youtu.be/TrYRPglvMHY

  • I am aware they are great dps wise.. I chose not to use them because they feel weak, sound weak and I prefer other weapons.. but, atleast I realize my choice is based on feel even though I know they are better. I don't ask for sidearms to get a buff because it is not necessary.

  • Well said. I in fact prefer a sidearm over even a shotty sometimes for closer ranges, or maining it as primary. But that's me, sidearms can actually be the weakest option out there.
