Clan Leader Roundtable

Hello fellow Clan Leaders- Just looking to have this thread as an ideas/information exhange to make our respective clans better. I’ll kick off with some questions to help stimulate dialogue. -What makes your clan successful? -How do you keep your members engaged? -What is the one thing you’d like to learn to help your clan?

  • I used to run a clan, but not anymore. Some things I learned are: - Have people you can trust in leadership with you. You have to open up, have some people take over certain parts of the clan, such as recruiting, making events, making sure people are engaged and following the rules - Have events that engage people. Even if it’s not destiny 2, play games with each other. Maybe crucible tournaments, raids, and if destiny is stale, do other games like among us or whatever people are playing. - Make sure you know who is joining. Try and talk with them a little, maybe do a few activities together to get to know them and see if they would fit

  • A successful clan is that which has active, helping, loyal members. Members stay engaged in their own sense, ask for help when needed, help when needed. We have a optional joinable Discord which will plan to maybe 1 day make it requirement. one thing I wished I’d learned earlier was to get more people I trusted involved in things like leadership. We have some close friends In it but they don’t do things like inviting members, interacting with others, etc. so having more people then just yourself is what you want for leadership. Of course make sure their trusted :)

Hope this helps! :)

      • 1) Remove the toxic and negative people. They drive people away and kill engagement. My clan is super light hearted. There is banter and throwing shade, but we laugh and enjoy just playing together. The clan is curated with a bunch of sassy savages who can both take a joke and make a joke. You have to have the right kind of chemistry going on. 2) Keep it inclusive. Don't get into a mode where it's just the same handful of people doing things. Drop a message to everyone in your clan chat about what you're doing and allow open sign up. Making people feel welcomed and open to engaging is key. Also, help people. This isn't about "Doc needs something, who's coming", it's about "what does everyone need and what can I do to help". Be inclusive and thoughtful. 3) Be a leader. Don't just let stuff happen: make stuff happen. There is no question about who the clan leader is. I am vocal. I teach, I lead. I am the clan leader. I am the cult leader. I am the tyrant. As I've stated recently to my guys: I am your elected leader because you elected to become part of this team. You're my constituents in a way and it's my responsibility to do this thing right. 4) Grow your clan slowly. Make sure everyone knows everyone. You don't want a clan where people get on and are like "who are these people". Make it a brother/sisterhood. At the end of the day, clan engagement boils down to whether people want to engage with others within your clan. 5) Admins. They're important. I'm not going to want to be online all of the time. Yes, I main D2, but tomorrow may just be a Dark Souls kinda day. Next week may be an Overwatch kinda week. I may be playing golf all day Saturday and doing a cookout with friends all day Sunday. Having admins that continue your level of welcoming and leadership when you're not around is very good for the health of the clan. That's pretty much how I operate and it has been pretty successful thus far.
