Tis truly a good day for it, mellon! I'm glad I remembered this year, last couple of times this came around I only realized until a month after. But this time I made the most of it and listened to the old Hobbit cartoon's soundtrack with ye olde book itself by my side.

I would have forgotten if I hadn’t seen this post, so I’m glad you remembered :P Lol, that sounds like a lovely way to have celebrated the 25th! I remember there being some fun songs in the Hobbit cartoon, but I haven’t watched it in forever... was the whole soundtrack good?

In my opinion, definitely! I've always really liked the movie though ever since I saw it for the first time as a kid, before I was allowed to watch the Lord of the Rings. So I am probably a bit biased in my review of it, but I think it's fantastic. I like the live action movies too, but I think the cartoon really captures the fairy tale nature of the book, and the songs are a great aid to this.

I should try finding the soundtrack—or see if we have the movie itself stashed somewhere. Sometimes you just can’t beat the older stuff! I actually had only watched the cartoon after reading the book and watching the live action movie when in my early teens, so it was quite strange for me to see! But you’re right, it definitely had that fairy tail charm (and kept some things the live action version left out, which I appreciated). Hm... not enough literature or cartoons have that, I think. 🤔

I can imagine! It is a funny little movie in many ways, especially the wood elves, I must say. Both the live action and cartoon got me to read the book again, though admittedly I was younger when the live actions came out as well, so I think actually I only truly read the book once at the time, but started it probably a dozen times. That first chapter is probably my most read chapter in all fiction... I really like the fairy tale and folk lore style, it's so fun to read and see.
