Depends on how nieche the game is.
In the case of Skyrim we can see the majority go for the basic -blam!- government mandated waifu Lydia when we have Uthgerd in the same town.

To be fair Lydia is thrust upon you without much of a choice. Have to go pretty out of your way to marry say Onmund that College of Winterhold student.
