Victory conditions for the factions

So this is something I've been meaning to do for awhile now. In Destiny each race and faction has been going at it for so long that we often forget the end goal for all this conflict, so today I'm gonna go down the list of factions and discuss what would be decided as a true victory for each one. Disclaimer ahead of time; some enemies have easier win conditions than others simply because of their scale Humanity: I feel like we all know this one, the end goal of humanity is to rebuild their golden age and fight off the darkness. Now a couple years ago this meant pushing out all hostile races from sol but in recent lore such a goal can be accomplished alongside once old enemies like the fallen. For humanity to truly "win" they'd have to beat the Darkness in one way or another, defeat the Hive, survive the taken, and repopulate at least a couple planets. Difficult but not impossible Traditional Fallen houses: since the fallen have really fragmented in the last three years I'm gonna seperate them into three groups: traditional fallen houses are the traveler worshipers who want to reclaim the great machine. To do this they'd of course have to get through humanity, and since these fallen have already made up their mind about being hostile it's gonna be tough. Simply reclaiming the Traveler however is just the first step, since if they do ever accomplish this they now have to fend off the Hive, Taken, and pyrimid ships all vying for the travelers destruction. So even if the fallen win they loose, since there's no way they'd be able to fight off a second whirlwind House salvation: I'm separating house salvation specifically because their goals are kinda the opposite of traditional houses. For house salvation to "win" they'd have to destroy the Traveler and rebuild a society of darkness users. Despite the task, house salvation has one of the easier win conditions since it's really only a two step victory (even if the first step is insanely difficult) Peaceful houses: to wrap up the fallen we have human aligned houses like judgement and Light, who kinda have the same win condition as humanity but with one extra step (that step being join humanity in the first place). I hesitated to put these guys in, but I felt like I had to Cabal Empire: to clarify we're talking about the Cabal empire Ghaul came from, the warmongers who want to dominate the galaxy. Without a doubt the Cabal have the biggest list of requirements to actually "win", since they decided to go for the galactic domination route and that's pretty difficult when you're competing with forces like the pyrimid fleet. They have to defeat the fallen, the hive, the vex, humanity, the pyrimids, Calus, and any other races still out there in the galaxy that can oppose them. After that they have to populate countless world's and create the empire they do desperately crave, which considering the competition (winnower) it's gonna be difficult Emperor Calus' loyalists: read the chronicon you nerds Savathune's brood: without a doubt savathune certainly has the most ambitious goal, and as a result has the hardest list of requirements. For savathune to win she'd have to destroy the Traveler, climb the chains and overthrow the worm gods, then defeat both the Light and the Darkness, and become queen of existence. This... Is impressive but impossible. But for all we know savathune might be lying about the whole thing and just wants to bake a really tasty Muffin made out of traveler shavings, who knows. Xivu's brood: opposite of savathune, Xivu and her Hive are using the classic Hive goals that we know so well. Destroy the Traveler and every other race in the galaxy till only the strongest warrior survives. Now it may sound difficult, but you gotta remember Xivu has the winnower on her side, definitely not as an ally but both are trying to achieve the same goal. For Xivu, even if the Hive eventually fall to a superior force she personally still wins through bull shit Hive logic loop holes Taken: taken are interesting, mostly because they don't have goals of their own but rather serve as a proxy army for whoever is in control. They have no desires of their own since the majority of them are mindless killing machines, so as a result their win conditions shifts between whoever is currently leading them at the time. So at the moment for the taken to win savathune would have to win Vex: I love this win condition, I don't know why. For the Vex to truly win they have to assimilate every single timeline into a Vex machine paradise, an empire for every outcome. Now of course this has grinded to a halt for the Vex in our timeline thanks to paracausal forces, but if the Vex ever learn how to simulate and predict such powers they basically win. Scorn: yeaaaah baby this is one I wanted to talk about, best for last! Now scorn are in an interesting situation, since they're not really a coordinated army like the Cabal but rather a force like the taken. The Scorns ultimate goals as a faction is really cause as much chaos and carnage as possible, with smaller personal vendettas being tossed into the pot. So in a way you could say the Scorn have already won, since every day they get to go out into a solar system where they get to fight and kill something new. But that's cheating so let's just give em a proper list. For the Scorn to win they have to kill most if not all the Eliksni, fulfill personal grudges against Petra, Variks, and the young wolf, and let's just toss in "destroy the Traveler" for good measure And that's about all of them, I'm sure I messed something up along the way but for now I'd like to hear what you guys think

    • For humanity the joining with the fallen sounds more like settling that victory since they would be settling with having fallen remain in their home and don't have the conviction to win. The fallen would also require humanity to lose the conviction necessary to really win and settle with them claiming part of humanity's home as their own. I don't think Savathun's goal right now is to destroy the Traveler since she is being targeted by the Darkness for interfering with its attempts to commune with us and the only way to survive is through the guardians neutralizing the Darkness or protecting her, hiding is just a delaying tactic.

      • Emperor Calus’s Loyalists: to die, but in a fun way or something lol For Savathûn, I’d put emphasis on her goal to become immortal, especially finding a way to rid herself of the curse of the Worm Pact constantly threatening to kill her. Excellent work

        • I would say that the current victory condition for the Scorn is to survive the eventual vaulting of the Forsaken expansion. They can think about grander plans once they navigate that road bump =\ Less facetiously, perhaps I'm missing out on the underlying lore, but what would you say makes Xivu the opposite of Savathun? Is it simply that Savathun wants to overthrow the Worms and Xivu is like "Woah, chill sis"?

          • I like the vex because the vex are still actually in the process of winning in other timelines where the Gardener and Winnower didn't create "physical" manifestations of themselves, so even after the Winnower and Gardener are defeated/subdued, the vex will still be a massive threat. As far as I can tell, only the Cabal and Vex will be of any true threat to us after the Gardener and Winnower's dick measuring contest has concluded.

            • I think your take on humanity is too simplified. Like the fallen, humanity has many factions that have different goals. New monarchy- probably your take on humanity victory. Dead orbit- leave the system ( Mass Effect andromeda style) start a new Future war cult- pretty gray, study the art of war and be better at wars to come....I don't think they have an end goal. The mission for the is on going. I can see them sticking with new monarch to fight for the solar system or hitching a ride with dead orbit to fight new wars with different aliens? Fenchurch- to finally get a word in. Hawthorne- enlist every one into a clan Drifter- hangout across the street from a highschool after school and brag to young adults about how awesome he is Ikora- replace shaxx Randall- ...........kill, die, and repeat Guardian- defeat the dragon born, Doom Slayer, Dredd, and Spawn.

            • You forgot about Eva Levante. She has her own sect of Taken and plans to kill Savathûn (her blood rival) before then deleting this reality and creating a new one.
