Just because light level was in destiny 1 trials doesn't make it a good feature of the game mode that is supposed to reward skill (rant).

Tl;dr: Light level shouldn't exist in a pvp mode designed to test a players skill. It should be an even playing field with nothing to make things that are already inconsistent or borderline for damage worse OR better. It makes hardlight even better, hopefully you guys understand that if you hate it. The actual rant: I don't know why it has to be argued or why people defend it in the first place. When you play pvp, you want the most even playing field you can get so that it's a test of experience, accuracy and communication and NOT a test of how much you can grind the rest of the game. I know that I'm going to get comments saying "just increase your light," and my response to that is this: Why? Why should I have to spend hours of my time farming levels when I'm ready to test myself in trials NOW? Why should I be put at a disadvantage because i don't have the light capabilities to do it without making it more frustrating for me and easier on my opponents? I'm ready, I play enough and I think I'm good enough to at least do decently in trials regardless of whether or not the mechanic exists. BUT, it weakens my load out and makes the enemies more powerful which hurts my capabilities and makes others look better which is both frustrating and contradictory to what should happen in a "test of true skill." NOT TO MENTION it also hurts build diversity and effectiveness at the same time. Certain supers become more inconsistent, certain weapons can't kill at their normal speeds, certain specials require even more rounds and it gets worse from there. It's a big part of why hardlight is so dominant right now in trials specifically, because it not only suffers very little from light level but it ALSO becomes even more potent the more advantage you have over other players because of how much small increments of damage affect autos. So if you hate hardlight and you think it's too easy, imagine with light level advantage making it kill EVEN FASTER. With just 2 damage it kills players at 0.60 if you are 4 resilience and below and it goes up from there. Meanwhile going DOWN 2 damage only puts you back at 0.80. It makes the sandbox much more annoying, far less skill based and even less consistent than it already is. It literally ruins a mode that could have been so much better if it had not existed in the first place because the skill level you can demonstrate literally skews and diminishes the lower you are. "But it's a pinnacle activity," and that statement right there is the problem. Pvp pinnacle should not be taken the same way pve pinnacle is because in pve light is basically the only real thing that holds you back as a player. In pvp it's your capabilities that matter more than anything and it SHOULD be the only thing that matters to begin in PLAYER VS PLAYER. "But there's a light cap," and it shouldn't even be there in the first place. If it's going to cap anyways why should it even exist? If everybody eventually hits 1000 anyways, alls that is happening is that you are dissuading lower light people from participating and so they don't until they reach that cap so they won't have to worry about it. People who want to get into the adrenaline pumping fun that trials can be will feel frustrated that they can't perform the way they normally do because they are simply just not strong enough and that sucks. I personally don't want to participate because of light level and a bunch of my friends (who are not good by any means) can't even get the motivation to try because they just don't have the time to grind or the patience to wait to be at 1000+ when they want to improve NOW. It's fine if you don't agree with what I said because opinions on the matter are just that opinions, but I don't think it belongs in pvp. Just like the artifact mods, just like the stupid revelry buffs and whatever crap that rewards farming or spamming certain things more than skill. In iron banner it's only tolerable because you don't HAVE to win to get the max possible rewards and it's not wins that determine your ability to progress towards the prestige feeling of the mode. I don't know why anybody would be opposed to an even playing field in pvp, but I'm not everyone and so I will just leave it at that.
