Destiny 2 is nothing more than malware on my PS4

Destiny 2 - Quite possibly my favorite game, now breaking my Playstation as we speak. There was no problems what so ever until yesterday, when an "issue in Destiny's core services" was found and the developers attempted to fix it. Which they did, they kept themselves awake for the game, and I respect that. I'm sorry for the long wall of text that you're about to read, but there is nowhere else that I can talk about this. But that "fix" game with a severe issue that seems to have affected me and several others, with myself being the epicenter of problems. Occasionally, numbers stop counting, characters stop loading. My guns will stop going down in ammo count but physically are still losing ammo. Entire enemy names and buff names cease to appear, and my quests and gear refuse to load. This was occurring both in game instances (Nightfall, patrol, Menagerie) as well as the Director or in orbit. Huh, weird, right? At first, when it only occurred in activities, I would try to return to orbit, when the game would promptly freeze. Well, that sucks so i'll force close the game. Except I can't. Some issue in Destiny 2 was so severe to the point that it froze my entire Playstation. So I sit here thinking to myself, quite frankly, shit. I resort to my first response which is to hold the power button until the Playstation is shut down basically by force, as if I unplugged the power (which the Playstation treats this as on reboot). No big deal, so I return to the game and here, it happens again. And again. And again. So I finally get sick of it, as I see the characters disappear once again, and refer to how to clear the console cache on multiple websites, all coming down to turning the Playstation completely off and unplugging the AC power for about 5 minutes. Simple. I turn it back on, same old health and safety warning appears. And then it doesn't fade away. My system froze on reboot, and now i'm concerned that Destiny 2 has physically corrupted my Playstation as a whole after the previous issues that caused a system freeze. 5-10 minutes later, the system shuts off on its own, acting like a blue screen on a Windows PC would, shutting down the system due to a fatal error. And I reboot it, only to be greeted to the hurtful "Cannot start the PS4." Great. Just great, my Playstation is bricked. I plug in a controller to access the options available to me, and the system refuses to allow a controller to even connect to the console. I'm forced to resort to what more than likely resulted in the demise of my old Playstation and unplug the AC power cord, as the power button doesn't decide to respond either. Turn it back on a couple minutes later, system checks storage status, resets after reaching 100%, and gets stuck before the system can even display the read health & safety information warning. The system, as it did before, turns off 5-10 minutes later as I write this, and after that incursion I unplug the system and am currently keeping it that way. So, as it is looking, my system may be inoperable with the root cause being system freezes caused by none other than Destiny 2. Now look, I love this game. My game history says it enough. But I can't love it or this company when something as trivial as disappearing text eventually leads to complete system failure. I'm not looking for remorse, i'm not looking for an apology. I just want you, as a company, to please read this and make some sort of message to the community about this issue. There is little to no chance that this issue only affects me, my friends suffer from frozen systems while they're playing the game as well. This is beyond simple complaints now, this is an issue that could cause huge issues for so many people if not resolved as soon as possible. I don't know what you can do in this case to help others. Hell, I don't even know if you can do anything. But for your community, do something about this before it happens to others.

Mine is fine, I hoover all the vents once a month and have a fan on keeping it cool at all times. Delete games I do not play, I can get them again if I wanted to play again. You know what to do with Malware then do it with this game if you feel like that.

  • Sounds likely that your PS4 or one of its components is dying. Overheating, power supply, hard drive... something in the console. I doubt it's the game. There was no software update to the game after the servers came back online, so if it worked before the last crash, it should work now. If you're certain it's not your console, and you can play other games just fine, then just delete and reinstall D2.

    • What's with the PS4 and getting bricked by nearly any game that releases? I've lost count of how many issues Sony has had with the console getting destroyed by games.
