Shadowkeep feels like a copy and paste

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS I am writing from my opinion thus far on Shadowkeep. Obviously this is an early review, because it is roughly 12 hours after the release of the game. I do know that more content is coming, and I fully intend on playing it. I love Destiny, but some things rubbed me wrong. I know I could just not play the game if I am not enjoying it. I am ultimately wondering if anyone feels the same. So, I know I'll already get flack because I burned through the campaign, but it doesn't feel like there is much to Shadowkeep. I'm a D1 year 1 veteran, so I was able to experience the original moon, firsthand. It hurts to say this, but Shadowkeep in its entirety (so far), feels like a rip off of D1. Yes, don't get me wrong, the new parts of the moon are fun to explore. The novelty of facing your foes of the past in nightmare hunts is fun at first, but feels like watered down adventures. In fact, many of the story "missions" felt like adventures. I felt that Bungie was banking on the utilization of the "nostalgia" factor as a marking tool for vets (and a cool name destination for new comers). It just felt confusing to me, to feel like I was just playing D1 instead of D2. I experienced confusion with an exotic quest that you are given right off the bat to acquire the RISKRUNNER. I felt somewhat insulted that I am given a quest to obtain an exotic, from Year 1 of D2, it was branded to feel like it was important. It was laughable, having an entire quest devoted to reacquiring an old gun thats been out for 2 years. As part of this quest, you return to
the Cosmodrome!
. I was so excited to see this again! And well, thats what I got, the same exact thing from Destiny 1
there is the addition of the jumping puzzle
. Again, don't get me wrong, I loved it before, but why are we getting a literal ported in copy of an old location from an old game? At first, I was pretty excited about the new "battle pass" for Destiny as well. It felt like a great incentive for the grind that I already take part in. As looked through the rewards, I began to feel disappointment. The last and "greatest" item you get for the 100 levels of grind is an ornament. I looked through the other rewards, and it was cool to see all the "experience" and "armor" buffs you get along the way. Then I think to myself, "I'm grind all of this out for these awesome buffs, but then it will literally all zero out in a couple of months". I know the point is to refresh each season, to provide new challenges, it just makes me question the grind. Again, I know there will still be new content rolling out, so I keep this in mind about the comment I will make. I feel frustrated with the fact that there is a lack of new guns to use at the launch of a major DLC, and the fact I essentially can't use my older weapons without dealing with the annoying new upgrade processes. I know the Vex Offensive weapons will come eventually, as well as Raid and battle pass stuff with progression (and ritual weapons), but thats it (so far). You run through the campaign and just get to reaquire all of the lovely blue gear and weapons from the past 2 years. Nothing new for Shadowkeep. I wonder what is the point of chasing powerful gear in one season, to have it invalidated within the first hour of gameplay in the next season. I know this a rant, and it will probably be seen as negative. As I mentioned before, I just wanted to share my opinion, to see if others feel the same. I'm excited for Vex Offensive and Garden of Salvation, and I can't wait to see what is to come. I just hope that it has more depth than the base of Shadowkeep has to offer. I love Destiny, and I always will. I just hope it does not become a trend of recyling content of the past, and branding it as new just to keep a game going.

So you go into the cosmodrome for riskrunner?? Damn, I thought for a moment that it might be for the exotic version of khvostov that got put in there stealthily. The big levelling gap of the fall expansions is a bit irritating. I wanna explore the additions to the moon and keep running into question marks and skulls. Should normalize once we hit the soft cap, I hope. It sucks to run around in blue trash armor though. I did get (two so far) mini-quests/checklists for the new moon themed weapons. They dropped from open world yellow bars. A lot of the moon is exactly the same as D1, which from a landscape standpoint is fine, but when you see chest and npc spawns that are exact copies as well, the deja vu gets a little overdone. That being said there are quite few new things to discover, I just haven’t really gotten around to alot of them yet. It’s a more polished version of the moon. In the long run that is fine, but you are missing the novelty factor, (that the dreaming city had for instance). The scarlet keep strike has that somewhat. I wish we could hang out on top a little longer, the view is really cool.
