All live events and special activities (such as SRL, Iron Banner, and the like) are over for Destiny 1. They will not be returning, so if you have anything left to complete for them, you should consider them uncompletable as far as your own personal quest to finish everything goes.
As far as finishing before jumping into 2, you should note that Destiny 2 has seasonal content and events, so the longer you take to jump in, the more you'll be missing.

You can do the SRL though. If you have friends you can do it in private matchs
