A conversation between me and my friend about Masterwork Cores. We both love this game and it's our passion for this game that makes us worry. Please Bungie take your time but fix this. Thanks :)
Me:
People are mad about the masterwork cores
wonder if they will remove it
if they do
i shall be happy man
not sure if they will
will see
My Friend:
nah I doubt they will since they already said they were gonna add masterwork cores to spider bounties
no reason to do that if they're just gonna take out the masterwork core requirement
Me:
but it just won't be enough
like i infused my arms for 3 cores
only ended up getting a higher level arm 10 mins later
My Friend:
we don't know how many cores we get from the bounties
Me:
How many ever it's limited yes ?
My Friend:
well in the sense that spider only has so many weekly bounties yes
Me:
that's the big prob
When all infusion resources can be earned as long as we are willing to grind
why not for cores ?
See the big draw with a looter shooter
is to look good while playing
not simply never infuse
until i reach max light
My Friend:
they're just training us to be wiser with our infusion
probably because they're trying to intentionally slow the progression
so people take longer to get to max light.
and dont complain for new content as quickly
thats what we have now though :O
super slow progression XD
Me:
I mean i don't have a prob with slow progression
it is fine, as it gives me more reason to play
but why can't i wear the armor i want
while progressing slowly
like i can get repeat gear
low gear
but if i atleast get to use my fav armor
i will have an incentive to play it
Now what we have is slow progression and gear i have to wear that I don't like
My Friend:
i don't get it
why cant you wear the armor you want
because you have to infuse it?
Me:
i wanna wear my reverie dawn set
every infusion requires 2 cores
and 25 baryon boughs
so 10 crores for one full set of infsuion
but even worse
i spend 10 and infuse
i get a prime at 5 light levels higher.
My Friend:
I mean its like I said, they changed the infusion intention with forsaken
they expect you to wear whatever gear you get, no matter how it looks, until you get to like 590-600
so that is what we were supposed to save our cores for
Me:
but the whole point of a looter shooter is gone now.
it is to look good while playing it
when i reach max light by the end of the season I have less reasons to play and I won't care how my guardian looks then. While i look bad the whole season and not infuse at all ?
My Friend:
that might just be a difference in perspective lol
like sure I want to look good but I don't expect it
they wanted to make your choice more meaningful
basically they wanted you to only infuse into the sets you like
so then its working as intended :P
Me:
but even that
i have spend nearly 100 cores
to keep infusing
and bring my one favorite armor set up
only that i realize i would have been better off had i just not infused at all
but i lost 100 cores
in the process
My Friend:
you were supposed to wear whatever high light stuff you got over the course of your leveling
and not infuse anything
until you got to 590-600
Me:
but i spend the bulk of my time playing it underlevelled
don't i want to wear the stuff i like
My Friend:
using up all those cores to carry your gear along was the mistake we all made
right everybody does but that is not the way it works any more
we were used to infusing everything all the time because it cost nothing, relatively speaking
so when they forced us to make choices we don't like it
I get what they were going for but don't think they executed it properly
Me:
yeah all i am saying is i want to play the game the way i like wear the armor i like, punishing me for it ain't fair
so people who just didn't care how their guardians looked actually had a better time and saved more.
My Friend:
yeah not sure what to say lol it is unfair but I just think we may have been playing the game a different way than intended
Me:
The intended way would be the way we like to play it
you can't force people to play one specific way
some may not bother
while others might not like it
My Friend:
yeah that is why I said I get what they were going for but they just didnt execute properly
Me:
Now the bigger problem is the fact that i don't know how they are gonna fix this
My Friend
its good to make choices more meaningful but not so meaningful that you cant play a certain way that youre used to
Me:
Exactly
My Friend:
feel like there should be some balance
Me:
wonder what that balance would be
My Friend:
either less expensive armor infusion, in terms of resources, or a reliable but uncapped way to get cores
I mean sure I liked the way it was but in a way I think it was too easy
Me:
Yup I am not against the current infusion system
infarct it gave planetary materials
a reason to exist
but say i want simulation seeds
i can go to mercury now and earn as much as i want
i can grind for my guy to look good
can't say the same for MW.
Hope it changes
:(
My Friend:
Cheer up man, I am sure if the community is loud enough they always take note.let's hope for the best :)
Me: The intended way would be the way we like to play it
I'm sorry but this attitude is the problem for many players. We are not developers. The way 'We like to play' usually never relates to how a developer wants their game to work. If players were always allowed to dictate how a game played I can guarantee you it would be a shit game. We can make suggestions and give opinions and thoughts but at the end of the day the developers have a vision on how things should work and implement things to encourage it. The Problem with D2 Y1 was that it was too accessible and too easy to level. It made End Game meaning less. If made infusion meaningless. Yes the swung the pendulum too far (as usual) and I'm hoping they find a balance. Your Friend has it right. People got too used to infuse everything because it was easy and cheap. Now you have to think about what you infuse and I agree with your friend that It should really only matter when you are at the final light levels. Your need to 'Look good', is it for you or is it for others to see you? Internal or External gratification. I do like a nice looking set BUT for the moment for me it's meaning less over Light Level and Function. I keep certain exotics leveled to help my sub-classes but that's it. Everything else is equipped and recycled as I get higher gear.

the other edge of that sword though is, with random modifiers and how combat unrolls in a game like this, putting on different armors that have "incompatible" attributes for your play style turns things on its ear. Momentum is lost and you find yourself growing more and more dissonant as these unwelcome changes unnaturally carve something you loved into disgust

Editado por Lost Sols: 10/16/2018 8:16:03 PMPretty much all of what you said. It makes me not want to play. I want to play the game using things I like, but we're 6 weeks into Forsaken (I'm close to 200 hours) and I can't begin to think about putting together an armor set or use mods. I don't even use shaders anymore and haven't since day 1 of the expansion since I'm constantly having to ditch the gear. Honestly I'm sick of people who defend this system saying things like "you have to wear trash gear and use trash weapons to appreciate when you get something good" (Gothalion) No, I really don't. I appreciate every cool thing I get and it just pisses me off that I can't use them. Then there's the argument that this makes us use more variety of weapons. Wrong again. I use less because all I can use is what's highest level and I use what cores I do have on my go-to weapons. Got a Full Auto Chattering Bone the other day. In Y1 I'd have equipped and used it. In Forsaken since it dropped 15 PL below my character level, it's trash. I'm not going to infuse it up just to use it and I'm not going to use low level gear. In Y1 I had more favorite weapons and used more combinations than I did in 3 years of D1. That's gone. The infusion system completely undermines everything else Bungie is trying to do with Forsaken and the deep grind. I'm still at least 3 weeks away from level cap, so I'm not going to be doing FotL because I need to keep grinding everything else if I ever want to be able to play how I want. And like you said, by the time we can play all this content how we want, it will all be old and we'll be over it, so what's the point? Why am I grinding for and chasing gear that I can't even use when I get it?

preface: I can almost say without a doubt my opinion would change if I didn't have a stack of 100 masterwork cores at forsaken release.... So even with my stack of 100 cores at the beginning of forsaken I have actually gained more cores because of spider + degrading all my old stuff. I've balance my infusions pretty much around when I raid or do prestige nightfall. I level up what I need for those activities and hold off infusion for the most part otherwise. I like how infusion is meaningful now. Only thing I would change is maybe just increase the drop rate of cores off degrading regular legendary gear.

Scrap bounties also drop them. They are limitless soooooooo?
