The fate of Humanity...

So I was watching Byf's lore Video on the Fallen and two things hit me... One, the servitors are ghosts. And two, The great wirwind shook the fallen at their core and during the battle with the hive, their leader is killed after the traveler abandons them. Now I know the traveler fought the darkness for us and saved humanity. And gave the cabal a big slap to the face But does that mean it wont one day abandon us ? The Darkness is the travelers ancient enemy. The Hive are not. If it had been the hive that caused the collapse, Would the traveller have left? Will it still leave at some point? Are Dead Orbit right after all???? EDIT: Just to clarify since I didnt state this well. If You watch the house of wolfes opening you will see a servitor make similar movements to a ghost. Given how they where also made in the travelers immage, I felt like the servitors are a (type of though obbiously different) fallens ghost in a way. Also Some lore digging on Destinypedia has revealed that the traveler was on Fundament when the proto hive crashed there. The Hive then chased the traveler away, That makes it twice (at least) that they have done this.

  • Servitors are Not in any way ghosts. They were first made to navigate space ships

    • I wouldn't see the factions as being right or wrong. They're simply different facets of what humanity's mindset needs to be. New Monarchy understands that we need to strengthen the City and protect Earth, humanity's birthplace and where the majority of us will be making our stand against the Darkness. New Monarchy is right. Future War Cult understands that the rough men who stand ready to do violence on humankind's behalf need to train and prepare for war. FWC is right. Dead Orbit thinks that we need to hedge our bets and scatter our people among the stars. Dead Orbit is right. The factions may not see eye to eye... but a wise Guardian understands that whichever one we choose to support, humanity needs them all.

      • I like to think the Traveler stayed to fight because it believed in humanity’s potential. Plus it was probably tired of running and thought “these guys are good enough, let’s do this”.

Servitors are their depiction of the Great Machine( Traveler, [○] will be important later ), they didn't receive the gifts we did and they hate us for it. It isn't clear what attacked them during their collapse, we knew it as the darkness. Unlike the Fallen we had Rasputin that detected it and took action, the Hive wouldn't just kill a kell though. That kell was of House of Stone if I remember right, also there would've been some indication in the Worlds Grave by now. Now about it abandoning us, it was a possibility and Rasputin was very aware of it. When it was going through protocols it went over stopping [○] if it was to depart by any means necessary. We still don't really know it tried to and Rasputin crippled it, btw read Ghost Fragments: Rasputin 1-5 and all the lore is above.

          • The Traveler isn't a good Machine. It stands for life, propagation, bounty, and rebirth, but it has been made abundantly clear that the philosophy it conducts itself on dictates self preservation above all else, as to be able to continue it's eternal journey throughout existance. As such, if presented with overwhelming odds of defeat, it will abandon the system and species it happens to be consorted with at the time. I hypothesize the reason the Traveler didn't abandon Sol was due to a surprise attack implemented by the Hive while in collaboration with the Darkness. The Traveler might abandon it's work when all is lost, but not a moment before. When enemy forces arrived in the system, the Traveler immediately suspended it's work on Io, retreating to Earth, where it's odds of survival were the highest. I believe these first attacks were slight of hand, to keep the Traveler and Humanity's attention while the Darkness encompassed the system. Once all the pieces were in position, they sprung their trap. The Traveler couldn't flee as it did so many times before, and was left with no other choice but to cripple itself to deal with the immediate threat of being consumed by the Darkness. The Ghosts are preventative measures the Traveler released so that it would not be left unguarded while it healed, not a blessing onto Humanity, as so many see it as. If the Guardian's campaign against the Darkness is successful, I see no reason that the Traveler would leave. With no threat of destruction, the Traveler would be free to resume it's work in Sol, but if conditions in the system continue to worsen and the Traveler garners enough strength to leave on its own, I would not count on it's presence in the comming battles.

          • Wasn’t the Traveler about to abandon us too, but Rasputin fatally damaged it and forced it to stay there? I think I remember seeing that somewhere

              • The hive directly serve the darkness as a force of entropy and death. Oryx has communed directly with the darkness and acquired the power to take his enemies. Oryx is also the one that had attacked the Eliksni homeworld and killed the Kell of Stone.
plus... you know... the traveler is crippled
I get what you mean when you say the Servitors are like our Ghosts, but the Fallen built them. Not the Traveller. And it WILL abandon us. I don’t know when, but remember this. Rasputin did shoot it down to keep it here to help Humanity. And it finally woke up from that slumber. I don’t think it’s all too happy with us.

                  • My Guardian keeps talking about retiring. Tired of always being called upon to save the universe and whatnot. Isn’t that the whole purpose of the Vanguard? Osiris is onto something. Maybe more Guardians need to follow his lead. By that I don’t mean everyone should have a shitty DLC either.

If it wasn't retconned, the Traveler did try to abandon us. Then it was shot down by Rasputin, forcing it to stay and somehow change it's mind on humanity. Or at least that would've been the plan if the Traveler decided to leave. I've read that quite a while ago in the D1 Grimoire, so don't quote me on that cause it might be outdated and already retconned in D2. Calus says the end is coming, somewhat similiar to Dead Orbit. So I guess we will see that someday. Perhaps he's referring to those Pyramid ships. Or something else. The things he saw at the edge of the cosmos.

                    • Our fate is to fight those dam space doritos with our big ball of light! Seriously speaking, we are the last stand against the darkness. Moon X already sacrificed and revived itself before us. I see no reason it would leave now.

The Hive fight for the darkness and helped cause the collapse

                        • <The Traveler has had enough. Think about it from her perspective. She is THE Gardener. She maintains, of her own accord, the seeds to millions of civilizations, hoping to let them touch the sky above. Boosting them into the greatest version of themselves. Then this thing, the Flower-Eater, the Queen of Final Shapes. It comes in and starts destroying everything. It stalks the fields of the massive garden. Despite hiding in the tall plants and flowers, IT still finds her. She's been on the run for ages. Wouldn't she get tired of it? Whether the Darkness would've died in the Collapse or not, without the Gardener, IT can't destroy everything. The Gardener needed rest. She needed to heal, which is why the Stranger led us to the Garden. If the Traveler woke up at the start of the Red War without healing, the Deep would kill her. She's healing. I don't care how D3 ends up going. I'm sure we'll jump on the Leviathan and get help through the Empire by putting Calus back in place, after all, he wants us to join his Empire. The Fallen have to join, because no matter what, it's the end. This is the last stand. The end of the Eldritch Race. Whether that's the name that belongs to the Traveler and Darkness, the 5th Race, or just the Darkness, this is it. We need to help the Gardener... Let the Garden prosper. The Dark Future is inevitability. When the Almighty cracks, that's all. I'd rather have the future belong to the Vex and not the Darkness, though.>

                        • Well for one thing, the servitors don’t supply light, using your analogy servitors to us would be supplying us with food/oxygen. Servitors produce/distribute ether to fallen which keeps them alive and allows them to grow strong. Historically, the traveler has always ran. We are the first instance where it didn’t run immediately. Whether that’s because of Rasputin, it being tired of running for millennia, or it having actual hope in us, is up for debate. It could run at any point, but it’s unlikely from a storytelling perspective and we’ve already come this far (granted we haven’t encountered pure darkness yet, so much more threat is to come).
