How to make the Timer actually fun, while still retaining difficulty

You see, there shouldn't be a 'timer' kind of timer. As in, a set amount of time. IMO, the 'timer' should be this: the longer you take to do the strike, the more buffed and prevalent the enemies become. So, say for the first 10 minutes, it's normalish because it's just increased light. Next, after that, throw on some burns for certain enemies that are displayed on the screen. Some example: I dunno... thralls move 50% faster (Motivation), arc damage taken up by 25% (Arc Storm), Knights can hold shields in their left hand and turn into a weird Phanlax type enemy (Defensive Knight Active), Taken have joined the fight (Taken Incursion; does not replace enemies, ADDS enemies), your vision begins to dim (Taint), enemies now actively seek and self detonate on your location (Fanaticism), Shaax has become your mentor (Supremacy; pick up the crests to regen health, but health does not regen normally anymore)... stuff like that. Keep doing this every 5 minutes or so. Obviously, you would have tiers for the difficulty spikes. It would be fun to see just how many debuffs (or bad things in general) you could endure and still complete the Nightfall. Make challenges or bounties around this idea. Flourish it into something concrete rather than 'hey, it's a timer, fun'. That way, you're not really constricted by a timer, but you're also not going do better by taking forever on each part. Eventually, persumably after much more time has passedthan our counter currently has allowed for us, the game will become so insta-death filled that you'll have to restart. But you could still make it, say... you were right on the last bit, a difficulty spike hit, but you pushed through that last little bit of health.
