As it stands right now, there's no situation in PVE where these two classes of weapon are the best option available. Sure, you can use them as a preference, but you'll be less effective than someone using a rocket launcher, sword or Merciless.
The only situation I can think of where a case for using a sniper can be made is Calus. And even then it's pretty debatable whether you'd be better off slotting something else.
Honestly, I think it was a terrible mistake to take these guns out of the middle slot.

Took the Borealis into the Savathun Nightfall the other week.. you know, damn near maxed impact sniper, one of the strongest in the game.. Even with matching elements, took me 4 headshots to kill a red bar wizard... 4 headshots... Rewind to Destiny 1 and you could drop a Yellow bar Wizard in 2 headshots with 1k stare.

The only thing that should be in that heavy slot is rockets a swords. Bring back heavy machine guns. Snipers shotguns fusion rifles. Back to the second slot. And buff everything in this game.

If you can use a sword, you can use a shotgun. But I see the point about the sniper rifles.

Snipers yes, I agree with, Shotguns, Not true. I use them often in public events and strikes to clear areas.

No they should,of,never been easy access weapons. A buff,them for Pve is,simple. No need to go back to special crippling the crucible.

If your a quick PERFECT shot with a sniper and use a high impact one on calus you can do the most dps. Shot guns never really felt like they belonged in pve even in d1 . Since all bosses or anything big just uses a big stomp and pushes you away. "..wow.. Such great diverse mechanics "

They could have made shotguns and snipers weaker and had them be kinetic and energy options like they did with side arms.

You can thank pvp for dual primaries and static rolls on everything. The real problem with destiny is pvp, it needs to be removed so pve doesn't have to suffer anymore ever.

Shotguns are OK. But sniper rifles really have no place.They need a damage buff in PvE to be a worthy replacement for rockets, swords, or fusions. They are in a bad place right now. Hell, headhsots with the full impact snipers rarely even stagger a boss. That was not an issue in D1 with snipers like Efrideet's Spear. All that happens is the boss just continues to charge at you, not slowed down, and knocks you off the edge of the map while you are nailing your 4 bullets in his head...

D1 PVP constantly avoiding sniper fire. For a while seemed like everyone was using TLW/sniper combo. Now I can run down lanes without a care in the world. No more checking for that glint off in the distance. No more melodramatic music/sniper montage MOTW. No more jug shield shotgun toting titans rushing at me. No more hunters shade stepping all over with their matadors. Ah those were the days. For those who were using shotguns and snipers as primaries though I can still feel your pain. This must be a nightmare for some YouTube content creators.

They really don't fill a niche in D2 compared to D1, which I agree is rather odd. That said, Hawthorne's Field Forged Shotgun is great, as far as Destiny shotguns anyway. But yes, it still suffers from the same disadvantages as other shotguns when compared to other weapons. Simply put: it just suffers less than others shotguns.

Shotties are purely for fun but snipers might as well not even be in the game and are basically just non impactful luxuries.. And barely that.

Do you raid? Shotgun = open door, Gauntlet, Pleasure Gardens, Royal Pools Sniper = viable option for Calus Patrol and Strikes = both viable options Just where are shotguns and snipers not an option in PVE? Just because you are unable to stand next to a strike final boss with your shotgun doesn't make these weapons not viable in PVE. Have fun and may RNG be forever in your favor.

Shoyguns are fine, just situational now. Great for taking out Servitors. Now snipers in PvE are pretty useless aside from one or two occasins. Even then we have more effective options. Snipers 100% need a PvE buff.
