Florida Man Searched ‘How To Rob A Bank,’ Cops Say. But He Didn’t Search How To Get Away With It

[quote]Before doing something new, you probably Google a quick “how to.” Well, this Florida man needed money so he asked Google how to rob a bank, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office. After a robbery at the Achieva Credit Union, 10125 Ulmerton Road in Largo Thursday morning, deputies were on the lookout for the suspect who implied to the teller he had a gun and took off with an undisclosed amount of cash. Pinellas County deputies arrested William Joe Johnson, 26, of Pinellas Park, around 10:45 p.m. Monday after identifying him as the suspect, according to the sheriff’s office. They found him at the Express Inn, 11333 U.S. Highway 19 North, Pinellas Park, where he was staying at the time. In an interview with deputies, Johnson admitted to robbing the bank and told officials he needed money. So, he looked up on Google “how to rob a bank.” He had a plan to rob a different bank just down the road, but walked out when he saw the teller was a “large male” and went to the Achieva Credit Union instead. He spent the money from the robbery on rent, bills and a drug binge, according to the sheriff’s office. Johnson is no longer a guest of the hotel, and is now staying in the Pinellas County jail charged with one count of robbery. The investigation is ongoing.
