How long and hard is the Leviathan Raid for a casual gamer?

As a casual gamer who's looking for more endgame content, I'm thinking about trying the raid. But everything I read, makes it seem like it's kind of intimidating (or impossible) for a causal gamer. Would appreciate any feedback from a causal gamer who has attempted or completed the Leviathan Raid.

It your team’s well experienced, shouldnt take them more than 2. Ran 2 raids back to back 1 hour and 20 each. some are less.

  • I'm also a casual gamer and have yet to attempt the raid. Mostly because I'm reluctant to do so or cannot find a a group of like-minded people. You see I don't want to run with an experienced team and I don't want to ruin the experience by watching somebody else do it on YouTube. I want to head in with a full fireteam who hasn't got a clue what were doing and work it out ourselves. This to me is what makes a game worth playing and adds gameplay value the fear of the unknown and a good laugh while we fail. And the satisfaction of working it out and succeeding.

          • Like others have said, once you have learned the mechanics, every encounter becomes extremely easy. I'd say that the hardest part for you would be finding a group willing to help you

          • I was late to the Destiny party, and Leviathan was my first Destiny raid. I too was a bit intimidated at first. What helped me was researching the mechanics, and having friends who played. Playing with a group of people you know (or made up of mostly people you know) makes a difference. Plus they wanted to do a blind run anyway so technically I knew more than they did lol. As long as you're confident in your killing and communication skills you'll be fine.

          • Just do what I did. Watch a vid on the boss fight (Calus). I think that is the easiest part of the raid because there is one main room and a teleported area. Not much space to get lost. Pretty much just have to look forward. Try to learn as much as you can about the teleported room because 99% of players are deathly afraid of having to do that job. Then, join a group on the boss and say you have done the raid but haven't beat Calus because people give up after a few tries. Beat the boss and get your emblem. Then go join a group for a whole raid. All they seem to care about is the emblem.

            • It's entirely dependent on your team. If the 5 others know what to do then getting you through will be very easy and you could finish in like an hour. But if there's multiple people who are inexperienced then it could take over an hour for a single section.

You're looking at it wrong. Don't be so concerned about your individual skills. The mechanics are simple. The REAL challenge is finding a competent team who can cooperate properly.

            • I am not a casual player but i'd like to try to give you some advice anyways. I loved every single raid in D1 but I can't stand this raid in D2. That being said, with a good team, I've been able to clear the raid in less than two hours, having beaten every encounter except the last on our first try. On a first attempt, I'd say that you're looking at closer to at least four hours. Probably longer but it depends on who you're playing with and however familiar they are with the raid will also factor in . I've seen a streamer help 3-4 first timers at the same time and manage to beat it within a few hours since they followed his instructions so well. I can't stress enough that having patience and willingness to learn will definitely get you through the raid. The encounters this time around are almost 100% reliant on communication. If you're at least alright at talking with people (two parts actually require you to speak depending on what role you're doing) I have faith that you'll be able to complete it. Best of luck, hope everything works out.

            • If you can find 4-5 experienced players that are willing to teach and hang in without raging at a few failed attempts, then the raid is nowhere near intimidating. The raid encounters are fairly straight forward and the mechanics are not too overwhelming. I feel like I run one to two new people through a raid each time and we’re always successful. And now just saying that from helping only a couple people. Last week I ran 8 full raids and 4 Calus check points. This week I’ve run 7 full raids and 1 Calus. Got a few more to do before reset, too. Just find that diamond in the rough group and you’ll be fine.

            • Never mind if people are saying if they know what they're doing it's x long. Half of this is entirely dependant on luck. Can't tell you how many glitches have kept us back. Dogs looking through walls from across map, not getting teleported back in the gauntlet as well as psions spawning everywhere they shouldn't , invincible psions on plates at calus acting like normal ones. All this just knocks your team out making it take longer as fatigue and frustration kicks in. usually it takes a few runs with new people to get the rhythm right. Pools are easy af. We did them on the 2nd try. Dogs can be easy but that depends on which flower you need to get too. Only thing that stops the gauntlet is the last race with everyone. Gets a bit cluttered in there. Calus, damn those psions inside the dimension. DAMN THEM I SAY!!!! Also, ammo is a problem. 4 of us Can go through almost all coldheart ammo taking out the skulls! Just watch walk throughs before jumping in.

The length and difficulty of a raid all depends on the team you get, but it’s not impossible for casual players to do. Don’t expect to complete it on your first couple runs though (unless you end up on a really good team). If you get a solid team of chill players that are willing to teach, you’ll have a good time even if you don’t complete the whole thing. Your goal should be to learn, not just to get all the loot because you’re not going to get any loot if you don’t learn enough to help get through the encounters. Raiding is quite a bit different than the the rest of the PvE but it really is one of the best parts of the game. Finding a sherpa or a clan that does training raids is the best way to get into it. From my personal experience, LFG is terrible for new raiders. If you’re on XB, send me a PM and I’ll see if my friends and I can set up a run for you.

              • If you find a sherpa team, maybe 4/5 players then it should take near 90 minutes if you how to stay alive. Learning mechanics will always take a number of tries to really get down and perfect. If you are someone who struggles to stay alive then it's a case of having to take it section by section over the course of a few days. Weekend maybe. The problem that many LFG groups had in Destiny 1, was people would constantly die at the wrong moment. Hard Mode meant you could not be resurrected* so dying meant a whole restart. Generally. So have a look at what people might use in each section and try to match them. Having powerful weapons is such a huge advantage when you're inexperienced *Self Res Warlock was the exception.

              • It really depends on the team you go in there with. If nobody knows what they're doing, be prepared for a long all nighter session if you want to finish it. If you're going with people that know what to do, and have some patience to teach you, it's about 1,5 hours for the entire raid. Maybe a bit longer for someone without any sort of raid experience. A lot if it is in teamwork and communication. Having a raid team with some patience is important, as you will screw up a few times. But overall the difficulty isn't such a step up that you'd need to really worry.

              • I just completed it for the first time this past week and we did it in under three hours but I was with a great team. I had also watched several videos and had done one section previously so I was somewhat prepared. But it was still difficult and if not for the patience of my crew it would have been much worse. But I had a great time, got good loot and am looking forward to doing it again. I would reiterate what other's have said: find a good team or Sherpa that's willing to take the time to help you. Prepare yourself by watching videos of the raid and don't start with the expectation of finishing it in one go, that might not happen. All in all, I thought it was a great experience and a terrifically fun time! I hope you have the same.

              • I have my 3 characters at 304 but I still haven't touched the raid, I have heard horror stories about guided games queuing up for 1+ hours to get sherpas who have not even completed the raid! I want to raid but trying to get 3-4 hours in 1 session maybe even more if it's a bad group is a nightmare for me...

                • It all goes down hill at calus, leaving the time at an average 6-8 hours, it should take less than 1 for everything else, and then people slip and slide at calus.

                  • Thxs all for the replies! Much appreciated. I think I'll do what one person suggested and watch some you tube vids to familiarize myself a bit more on the mechanics of the raid. Then maybe take some of you up on your offers to help get a group together, as I don't have a lot of friends on my Xbox.

It isn’t difficult at all. It also isn’t fun imo. From being a dedicated raider in Destiny I have no interest in playing this raid again after ONE completion.
