Assistance Required part 2

Part 2 of my Legend Untold and Frontier crossover "Quick," my savior grunted as he wrangled the psychotic Guardian, a young male judging by his voice, "Try knocking him out." Not needing to be told twice, I delivered a swift kick across the exposed face, then another when he responded with a hiss. "That ain't gonna happen," I warned the other Guardian, now noting his Titan helmet. "Okay, we need to put him down to look at him. Maybe his Ghost can fix him up," the stranger commanded. "His Ghost is dead," I told him ungrievingly. "What are we gonna do then?!" he panicked, struggling to keep our captive down. Wordlessly drawing my cannon, I leveled it at the Hunter's head. "NO! YOU CAN'T-!" his cries for me to stop were in vain, and he quieted as the man went limp in his arms. After a moment the shocked warrior released the body and laid it down, whispering something to either himself or his Ghost that I couldn't catch. I stood silent, expecting him to need a moment, but he took straight to checking the eyes and slack mouth of the corpse. Deft fingers gently pushed the eyelids open and poked around the jaw and throat of the victim. "Thanks for the save," I finally said, watching how the Guardian thoroughly checked every inch of visible skin. No response, just moving on down the body and removing the gauntlets to check the hand condition. "I'm Orion," I grew tired of his sulking and pressured him to speak. With a sad sigh the man stopped and looked up at me. "William," he bowed his head slightly in greeting, "A pleasure." Not waiting for a response, William went back to checking the arm for any abnormalities. Not that I was going to say more anyway; I learned long ago that the less attachments you made, the less loss hurt. Exchanging names was only a formality. William paused for a moment in his work, looking at the dribble of white on the Hunter's lips. He was probably thinking what I had: the Vex had pushed the Fallen out of here and this Guardian probably decided to taste test. I'd heard of the Vex making people go insane, so that had to be the explanation for the Hunter's wild attack. Placing his hands carefully, William pulled the dead Guardian's mouth open wide and put his palm on the stomach. "Spark what is he…?" I began to ask my companion, not understanding why CPR would be needed, but trailed off as William pushed down on the stomach and caused a small spray of Mind Fluid to shoot out with a gurgle. My jaw went slack as I watched William push several more times, sending out a flow of the white liquid that eventually died down. William looked at me wordlessly, then at the area around us. "No Vex tracks, no scorch marks, no Fallen present…" he listed, somberness still dragging down on his voice, "Only empty crates, puddles, branches, and some marks of physical struggle." I glanced around and noticed some scuff marks leading to the spot with several large puddles of Mind Fluid, and more marks of struggle there around the crates. Observant; he would make a decent scout. "Location of Fallen scuffle marked by same signs of physical struggle and Mind Fluid, but also by arc scorches," he sounded like a computer now, sadness replaced with interest as he went over what he knew, "Still no actual marks of Vex constructs…Traveler help us." "What?" I questioned, trying to piece together all that information, "You saw the dead Fallen?" "I was patrolling Venus and picked up a Vanguard issued bounty to find a missing Guardian. The site of the bodies was the first stop and I talked with the Warlock who filed the bounty. Found your trail and ended up here just in time," William shot through today's activities, wanting to get to whatever it was he had pieced together, "I think the Fallen put that Mind Fluid in the Hunter to see what it would do to him." "Oh Traveler," I echoed William's plea as the realization hit me. "Rush," William called, talking to who I assumed to be his Ghost, "Send a message to the Warlock. Tell him what happened and tell him again I don't want his reward, then send the body to the transmat zone he's waiting at. He'll want to take care of his friend." "Then tell him not to go seeking revenge, because I'll handle it for him," I ordered William's companion. "WE will handle it," William corrected, standing up from the body. I could now see that William wore a Warlock robe with a Titan helmet and some other bits of Titan armor slapped over it, but there was no Bond or Mark visible on him. He was short, and definitely too small to be a Titan. Must be a Warlock who wanted some more protection. "I don't need or want your help," I replied coldly, "You'll get yourself killed out there, kid." His helmet disappeared so I could see his stern glare, revealing a youthful face with blue-grey eyes and light brown hair. "That would be a great idea if you wanted to end up like him," he gestured to the dead Hunter, "But I'm not about to let this happen again to you or anyone else, so we're stuck with each other." "Fine," I crossed my arms indignantly, "But no one else is coming along." "Waiting for support would only slow us down," William agreed with my demand, "And since our friend here only disappeared a few hours ago, and since the Fallen clearly left on foot, we should still have a chance of catching up." "He's making you look bad Orion," Spark chuckled. "If I wasn't distracted by a murderous Guardian I would've noticed more of the clues," I whispered back so our company wouldn't hear. "You coming?" I looked up to see William waiting at the tree line. "If you get snarky with me, I will abandon you in the woods," I pointed an accusing finger at him as I walked past. "I'm sure you will," he laughed in response, then got his helmet back on and followed me through the trees.
