Lol, I feel the exact opposite. The books always felt like, "This is where we're going, it may take 5 years to get there...if we ever get there at all". Kinda like running in place. And this is comming from a hardcore reader.

I've always felt that Martin's books could have lost at least 30% of the content, and it would have absolutely no impact on the story whatsoever. I would often find myself thinking "Get on with it!" while reading his books. That doesn't happen very often to me, and I've read 1 to 2 books a week for at least 30 years. But, eh, opinions and all.
