New consoles coming out every 4-5 years instead of 6-8 is bad thing considering there are very titles that allow cross generation play and no backwards compatibility.
If my friends are still on last gen and I can't play with them on my current gen, why rush to buy it?
If I buy a new gen console and there are very few games to play, what's the rush to buy it since I can't put my last gen games in it?
I'd be more inclined to purchase a new gen console if these things are applicable. Otherwise, I'm waiting 2-3 years for the price drop.
How about a console that supports hardware upgrades? Cheaper for the consumer and little need to worry about the concerns listed above...
