Exotic History: The Big One #2.5
This installment of Exotic History is made possible by Herald of Fate
The man turned to look down range as a large log shaped object with several floating limbs was launched into the sky. Trixx aimed down sights, waited a second, then fired. The rocket launcher howled as a stream of Arc energy shot out of the barrel. Trixx stumbled back slightly and watched as the rocket zoomed past it's target and exploded off into the distance. The jets along the side of the rocket let out a stream of smoke before settling down again. "You missed." Auto said, pointing towards the dissapearing target. "Well the recoil stumped me." She grumbled, rubbing her ear slightly from the noise as she aimed down sights again and shot. She only shifted slightly as the rocket howled once more, letting out a blue stream of energy. It zoomed towards the target and missed once again. "You missed." "Shut up!!" Trixx turned angrily towards the rep. "What perks do you have on this?" The man raised an eyebrow. "Oh the usual, standard sights, fitted stock, Tripod, and a unique perk I like to call 'Lots of Explosions.'" "There's no tracking?" "What do you need tracking for? Can't hit your target without us holding you hand?" Trixx snarled. "Don't get sassy with me." "Then don't complain that your crutch isn't there." The man frowned and walked up to Trixx. "Give me that." "Who gives you the authority to boss me around?!" "My rockets, my rules." The two had and intense staring contest before Trixx grunted and placed the rocket in his hands. "Fine..." The man got another cartridge from his assistant and reloaded the rocket. He got into a more stable stance and nodded. "PULL!" The assistant pressed the button and another pole with two Dregs on it launched into the air. The man carefully aimed, tracked his target and fired. The familiar howl in his ear made his smile as the bolt of Arc energy shot out of the barrel and flew true towards it's target. The jets of steam helped him restabilize the launcher as he watched the target. The rocket zommed forward and smacked square into the pole, exploding on impact. He counted to two in his mind as the second explosion followed. "So what?" Trixx said with a shrug. "It explodes twice? Cluster Bombs can do that." "But here is where you are wrong." The man set the launcher back into it's case and took a rocket from his assistant. "While Cluster Bomb is simply a shrapnel rocket, Lots of Explosions does something different." He gently undid the casing. "When the first explosion hits, smart technology within the rocket scans for other nearby life. Depending on if your first target died." The rocket bulked in appearance as three spikes extended from the base, giving off weak static electricity. "The secondary explosion happens by a sort of 'Life Drain' effect. When it senses that one target dies, it uses whatever energy was contained within it to explode once more. And so on and so forth until nothing is left to destroy." The man smiled and slapped the disarmed rocket in his palm. "Any questions?" "Can I try?!" Auto raising his hand quickly. The man gestured towards the launcher. "Be careful with it." Auto happily picked it up and started to load it as Lyris spoke to the rep. "So you say this thing is Exotic teir?" The man frowned. "The same tech that went into the Regime, went into this." "The Regime isn't as good as it used to be." "Its not my fault you Guardians had to have things like the Thorn for..." "Don't say that name!..." Trixx said with a shiver. "Still have PTSD because of that... THING..." "Indeed..." The man glanced over as Auto gleefully shot a rocket and hit the target. "Well either way, I hope you see potential in this design." "What are the benefits?" Lyris asked. "Well this defiantly trumps most rockets of its type in its ability for crowd control. While it is fairly unforgiving to new comers, I feel the nature of it more than... makes up for its lack of tracking." "Well I don't think so." Trixx crossed her arms. "That is a waste of ammo if you can't hit your target." The man calmly looked at her. "If you can't hit things to begin with, what makes you qualified to be a soldier?" Trixx growled a little and turned to look at Auto. Lyris sighed and shook his head. "It has potential but I don't know just yet." "Its still in the development stages, so by no means just sign it off. It needs to be throughly tested like our other products." Lyris nodded. "That I agree with so..." Before he could speak, the other Guardian who was standing on his own walked up and faced the rep. "Mind if I try it?" His helmet disappeared into storage. It was an Exo male, his scratched and dinged plates were more scratched silver than a light blue. One of his eyes was shorted out but the other pulsed slightly with a standard yellow color. His armor was also in bad condition except for a strange rifle at his side. The man flinched slightly as he recognized the Hakke brand, but it was a very old model and a bayonet was strapped just under the barrel. He gestured towards it. "A Hakke enthusiasts?" "No." The Exo's voice was gruff. "Just been reliable." "Ah... Well I don't see..." The man stopped as Lyris gasped, fully looking at the Exo. He backed away slowly, gasping for breath. "What the world is going..." Trixx actually paled as she stared at the Exo. "Lavesk-67..." The Exo turned to look at her. "Yes?" "Oh dear Traveler." Trixx pulled out a hand cannon. "Woah woah!" The man held up his hand to block her. "What's going on?" "Don't you get it?!" Trixx was practically screaming. "That's Lavesk! Whenever he is around bad things..." A large boom caused her to stop as she looked up. Above them was a large Ketch, zooming into view with several Skiffs in tow, all coming for them. "S***. Find cover!" The man yelled as he sprinted towards a wreckage to get out of the way of the incoming attack. https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/207950395/0/0 link to part 2 https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/172967959/0/0/1 link to The Big One
