If you read the update from last week Bungie said the only way to get the updated legendarys is to open packages. You may as well decrypt the legendary engrams

But a few cryptard packages will net you new stuff. I am saving mine just for that reason. To lvl the cryptard after the update!

Think it's more about hoarding exotic engrams......but yeah, saving legendary engrams won't get you the new stuff, but it may be at higher light when decrypted after the update.
