The Whirlwind - Why The Fallen Fight Us

The Fallen come from a planet many light years away, and many years ago the Traveler visited their planet. Similar to our Golden Age, their society flourished with wealth, power, new technologies. After many years, the Traveler left. What is referred to as "The Whirlwind" struck their society and they fell from greatness. After the Whirlwind struck, the Fallen, or back then known as "Eliksni" took up a Nomadic Culture and left their planet for the stars. After plundering other planets and ruins, eventually they found us, and with us, the Traveler. After they discovered that we had the Traveler, they attacked our borders and lead skirmishes against us. Uldren Sov and the Crows intercepted many communications between the Fallen Houses and found out about their plan to attack the City. With no way to contact the City, they lead a skirmish against the House of Wolves and imprisoned and enslaved their house, and forced the House to accept Mara Sov, the Queen, as Kell. The remaining Houses in the system (Devils, Kings, Winter) then lead a massive cooperative assault against the City known as "The Battle for Twilight Gap". The battle was not fairing well for the City when the Awoken intervened. It is thought that the City and Human race as we know it would be extinct if not for the Queen. Despite all of this, and a divided race, the Fallen continue to assault City but never again as big as the Battle for Twilight Gap. After the Twilight Gap, Gunsmiths from the City took up the honor to memorialize the Guardians who fell and crafted the weapon Gjallarhorn from their armor. This weapon was gifted to the survivors and is a honor to wield it. It is speculated that Alpha Lupi died in the Battle for Twilight Gap but other references deny the idea. Further information is required to determine exactly who Alpha Lupi is. Other interesting figures in Destiny include Dredgen Yor and Six Coyotes. Also, a Dreg is formed when a Vandal is punished thus their bottom set of arms is removed. Eventually they can "grow them back" and regain their honor. The Twilight Garrison were the Titan regiment stationed at the Twilight Gap.

  • Dregs are the bottom of their society. They are docked of their lower arms in a ceremony of humiliation and subjugation from a young age. Dregs who prove themselves worthy are allowed to remove their Docking Caps and regrow their arms and thus become Vandals. Vandals and above can be docked of their arms again if they fail or lose honor and become a Dreg again. The Fallen already were experiencing their "Golden Age" before the Traveler came. Then the Traveler left because the Darkness was chasing after it and the Eliksni home world was caught up in that, dubbed "the Whirlwind". They view the City as selfish for hoarding "the Great Machine" and believe that the Traveler will reignite their Golden Age, where ether ran free and their young didn't die of ether starvation.
