The problem isnt Gjallerhorn too strong, its other exotic heavies too weak!
Looking at the changes, I saw a lot of "yeah, I expected that, let's see how it plays out"
What I did not expect, given the dominance of exotic primaries, was the Gjally nerf.
The issue wasn't "gjally is too strong", it's the other exotic heavies being too weak. Why on earth would you sacrifice an exotic slot which could go to icebreaker or hawkmoon for a thunderlord when you have a jolder's hammer? Why would you use a truth when you can use a Radegast's fury or Ash Factory rolled for tripod and tracking?
The ugly truth is Gjally was the only heavy worth sacrificing an exotic slot. You don't use heavies often, and an exotic heavy has to pack considerably more punch compared to it's legendary breathren vs a primary or special because of that.
EDIT:
Allow me to make myself clear: because they're not bringing other exotic heavies into line with Gjally, this is how the patch will play out:
Either Gjally will still do significantly more damage than other heavies and you'll [i]STILL[/i] see "Gjally required", or Gjally will not do significantly more damage than other heavies and nobody will use an exotic heavy anymore.

My guess is that they are nurfing how spongy boss fights are in TTK. That's why ghorn is getting the scale down. No need for a nuke if bosses aren't hiroshima ;)

2 RespuestasThe problem is that that view everything through the lens of "Power." Power is not even the problem. It's utility. In most cases, these other rocket launchers have no strategic advantage. I rather use Hunger Of Crota than use a slot on any of the other Exotics. It has nothing to do with power. It has to do with how useful the perks are. Aggressive tracking and early detonation is not what I would call useful. Cluster bombs is okay. Reduce grenade cooldown is okay. And most of the machine guns are not worth the time it takes to empty the clip, versus rocket launchers. Unless you're just looking for high powered headshots. But, against a boss... the only time they are useful, is when there is arc or void burn. Dragons Breath could have been so good, IF the solar flare caused Ignite. As it stands, bosses and stronger enemies just walk away from it. This STILL hasn't been buffed. And why in heck is there an exotic with no tracking? Lol. The other heavies just aren't that interesting. AT ALL. With TTK there needs to be interesting, useful, unique heavy exotics... with a 2nd / 3rd perk that actually has tactical advantages. Come up with a Heavy Arm or something.. give us a Hive Boomer. Lol... the Heavy Weapons are boring right now.

Ive run tons of raids and people dont care if i have gally or not so wtf do u have to nerf for? Its the coolest and best gun in game thanks for nerfing things we didnt ask for bungie.

1 RespuestaI'm with you on the issue of exotics being under powered. Most just don't live up to the name. There are 3 or 4 truly worth carrying. The others are still looking for a reason to exist. Exotics should be like Ferrari's. Hard to acquire and everybody notices when you've got one.

Yeah, I don't understand wanted to balance the playing field. Some guns should be more powerful, that's why they are exotics...

2 RespuestasHey now, Truth and Thunderlord are FAR from weak. The reason Dragon's Breath is so overlooked is its lack of tracking, which is sad because that solar flare can do decent damage to Crota's shield.

There are good heavies but people are too dependant on the Gally in my opinion. To an absurd degree. Maybe this will help people be more creative instead of "do you have a Ghally???"
