Are you certain you are using the same email to login?

Yes, I am. It is a very distinct and very straight forward email address. I was using it to login to Bungie.net on and off to keep my account alive every few months if you look at my post history.

Another dumb question, but have you tried signing out and signing back in?

Yes I have done that, and it does not work. I received a confirmation email to verify my new account, but I am afraid to click on it in case it locks out my old account.
