TABLET and PHONE USERS: I Am Not Trolling You. HONESTLY!!!

Some of you (cell phone users too) have gotten the wrong impression from me. Honestly, I am not trying to be a troll to all of you. It's just that, every time there is a new way to access Destiny from a tablet/ cell phone/ whatever, it seems like we are one step closer to the day when I will be FORCED to buy a peripheral device just to play my favorite CONSOLE game. And I just don't think that's right. The ability to manipulate a character's equipment from a computer is bad enough, from my point of view; and I know some of you want the ability to do it while in a combat area. That's fine in principle, I suppose, if you're raiding against Crota; but consider the Crucible. If one player has the ability to switch weapons in the midst of combat by simply pressing a touchscreen on a tablet, barely looking away from the screen, that's a HUGE advantage over a player who has to go into the game menu to do the same thing. Yet it's an advantage that comes from outside the game. And people complain about buying things from Xur? I am going to anticipate some replies here: 1) I should just buy a tablet myself. I already spent good money on a PS4, which does everything the game is meant to do. Why do the designers feel obligated to add functions for tablets and phones? 2) I am a grouchy old man. I don't deny it; but I think I have good reasons. 3) Get over it. Well; no. I think someone has to make these points, and I seem to be the only one willing to swim upstream on this topic. I also think that for every 'me' that is willing to speak out and take the abuse that is then hurled my way, there are hundreds like me who just don't want to be unjustly accused of being a troll and hence keep silent. I am not a troll, and I am not making these posts frivolously. I am trying to make sure that DeeJ and Bungie know that there are members of the community like me, who don't own these wonderful little devices, don't intend to own one, and don't want the game to cater to those who DO own them if it's at our expense. Be clear- if you like your phone app, fine. Keep it, use it. Just DON'T expect me to buy a new additional technology just to play this game. And if Bungie adds something that gives you a game advantage over me, because you spent REAL money in real life, you had better expect me to post another complaint thread. A big loud one. But until then, we can all be friends.

I'm going to try to put this as simply as I possibly can, without being rude or condescending.
If one player has the ability to switch weapons in the midst of combat by simply pressing a touchscreen on a tablet, - That's not how it works. If you have a weapon on your Guardian, as in, it's in their inventory, you still have to select it the same way. A tablet/phone/PC cannot do that for you. barely looking away from the screen, - If you want to equip an item that's not currently in your Guardians immediate inventory, you need to do one of two things: 1) Open the app. Go to the character you're using at that time, check if the item you're after is in the vault. If its there, transfer the item to your character, and then equip it from your inventory like you usually have to. 2) Open the app. Go to the character that has the item. Select the item and transfer it to the vault. Change characters. Go to that character. Go to the vault. Take the item from the vault to add to that characters inventory. Then equip it from your inventory like you usually have to. that's a HUGE advantage over a player who has to go into the game menu to do the same thing. - No, it's actually not. You have to put your controller down, or multitask with one hand holding your device (here comes the innuendo) and one on your controller, and then still go into your menu to equip it. How could that possibly be an advantage?
I'm sorry, but I don't believe you have any understanding of how it works, otherwise you'd know that it doesn't work like you purport it to. The app is just there to assist you if you have forgotten an item in your vault, and you don't want to: Stop what you're doing. Go to orbit. Go to tower. Go to vault. Go to orbit. Go back to activity. It's not a "magic button" that switches the item currently equipped. Clear? Edit: Oh... And this:
And if Bungie adds something that gives you a game advantage over me, because you spent REAL money in real life,
Most people already have a device capable of utilising this ADDED ON FEATURE, we certainly didn't go out suddenly and "spend REAL money" on it (As opposed to "FAKE" money?). That's like saying the cart came before the horse...

      • I agree. I think they should have just made a vault accessible through your ship while in orbit so that way you could only weapon swap in between matches. Fair? I think so.

        • No ones expecting or forcing you to buy a phone or tablet... Most people don't switch weapons from character or vault to another character in mid game unless they just forgot it at tower. We usually get on a character, switch over all our crucible weapons, THEN start a match. Its way too hard to do it during a match, no matter what you believe lol. It's not an unfair advantage at all, just less time consuming. We still have to go to tower to grab bounties and see the cryptarch and such. Besides, people have lost fully upgraded to exotic weapons because of it, so Don't complain, we have our "setbacks" too. You really shouldn't see this as an advantage, and taking into consideration that majority of people playing destiny have cell phones that can handle the app it only makes sense to create one for us, the majority of gamers. The game is still 100% fair, functional and enjoyable for people without phones and the app.

          • Switching weapons is way easier with your phone, although it's not like a one button push, you have to move it to the vault with the character it's on, and then switch to the character you want it on and "take" it from the vault. Doing this same process in game takes forever, and can be more excruciating if you forget a weapon and have to go back to a different character. Personally I think Bungie made the mobile app the way it is so people would stop trying to have 1 of each of something on each character...it's pointless now with the app being able to switch that easily.

            • You can't equip an item using a peripheral device, you can only transfer them from vault to character and vice versa. If you don't want to buy a peripheral device, you don't have to, but don't complain other people have the ability to so they don't have to waste a ton of time going to and from the tower.

              • Bungie didnt start with the mobile app. Ps4 did with ps4 app. Also if you spend money on a ps4 pluss subscription then you can pick up a phone plan for the similar price. Advantage in cruicible well.... if you take a gun of every type then theres no advantage just change weapons to suit the terrain. It does save people leaving the game b4 it starts which does reduce matchmaking times. So I really dont see the advantage you speak of gaurdian

I guess I never really noticed either. Hmmm maybe they should change it so you can't equip during crucible? Also no offense but this should really be in #feedback

You think you're forced too when in its never been a requirement. You can play destiny without a cell/tablet...go ahead...put it away and try it.... see not a big deal. The only reason you feel compelled to use one is a matter of ease.... otherwise you could get off your fat lazy ass and get on a computer. So in short...you're full of crap....stop whining...get over it. You're 2-3 years too late in figuring out that industry now increases the desire (keyword....not a requirement...) to use a smart-device for most things to make your gaming experience easier....convenient...etc. Blaming this on bungie is just stupid and short sighted....just shows how badly you are behind the times. Wake up....you're in the mobile age....get used to it...expect to see it more often everywhere else...

                  • Also peripherals have plagued games since I can remember. Memory cards, 4 port controllers, network adapters. Times change and you just have to grow up and nake your own choice if you want to continue with it.

It's literally just a convenience. I don't understand why you'd think they'd force you to get another peripheral, it doesn't benefit them in any way (other than website traffic, if an app even counts as that). If you don't want to use it that's fine, it's not like anyone's gonna force you to later on down the line lol. And also that crucible example is great in words but in actuality it would never happen. You have to do extensive scrolling and tapping to switch items over, it doesn't happen at the press of 1 button. Anyone who tries to switch weapons over mid game is setting themselves up for 1) no kills and multiple deaths or 2) no support to their team for those couple of mins to switch, and also probably a couple of deaths. Play a game of basketball and stop every couple of mins to change your shoes while the game continues. It would end up giving your opponent a huge advantage.

                    • It being a part of the game internally would have been nice but honestly why do you care so much? I use it all the time for when I forget things like my ice breaker or black hammer. Taking breaks in raids can get really annoying. I'm sure you had to wait for someone to go grab heavy synthesis from the tower. It's faster to switch weapons in game anyways. The app really is just there to save you load time. I love it!

                      • I don't think it's done so the game requires you to own a tablet or smartphone. I think it's done for the simple fact that in this day and age most people have those devices and any app that can be created on them to make the ingame experience easier/better will be. More of a thing of convenience.

                      • I agree to an extent. They should have implemented the app features into the game itself and then extended those features to other devices. If it's any consolation, the only feature you're really missing out on (besides the convenience factor) is the ability to split stacked items into smaller quantities.
