It has nothing to do with strength, it's the fact that you could move far faster be far more efficient with a short sword or even a rapier.

We aren't taking about using needles and rappers, we're talking about using an adequately sized weapon to one that would be completely useless without being in a totally open space.

I doubt the giants are in very cramped spaces that don't allow them to move, and if so the point is pretty moot. One could say just the same thing really about using a spear or pike inside a building or hallway. This is irrelevant.
