Moral of the story:
Adults should not have sexual relationships with kids not old enough to legally consent.

Unfortunately, this is true. Age of consent ought to be lowered to 12 or abolished. I don't think there's anyone laboring under the delusion that you don't know what you're doing by the time you're 14 or so.
-
Well, I think everyone would like to think their 14 year olds are at least learning along with kids close to their age. Not adults.
-
They were dating before the girl was 18. Should they just break up because she turned 18 and not talk for 3 years? Come on. Be realistic.
-
Obviously, yes, discontinuing the physical relationship until it was legal would be the better choice.
-
no evidence is mentioned regarding a physical relationship after she turned 18 so the parents that brought charges will most likely be sued for slander.
-
Nobody said anything about a physical relationship though. You're assuming. None of the parents or the charges include physical relationship.
-
If there was no physical contact, no crime was committed and it will work itself out. However, if they didn't have evidence, they typically wouldn't file charges.
-
That's not true. The fact that they are claiming to be together in the state of Florida makes it legal for the parents of the minor to press charges. That doesn't change the fact that the parents only problem is that their daughter is dating another girl.
-
The law was made to prevent adults from taking advantage of children. Not two people, in High School, a couple years apart.
-
The law was made to prevent adults from taking advantage of children.
One could make the case that this is what was happening.
-
There is a huge difference, especially since the daughter has stated it was a consenting relationship.
-
A 15 year old cannot legally consent to sex with an adult.
-
No one said they had sex or were having sex. There is no proof or anything about that. It's about them being together. In a relationship.
-
The charges filed indicate there was sexual contact.
-
Fine. I want charges against everyone in this kind of situation, nationwide. Round them up.
-
The crime she is charged with is a Florida statute. Nationwide, the legality of their relationship would vary from state to state. In many states, she would face much more severe charges. In some it would be legal or only a misdemeanor.

Editado por M37h3w3: 5/20/2013 6:41:45 PMDammit Achilles, this is the same thread from earlier. The relationship was started when both were minors (with a three year ago gap) and the minute she turned 18, the parents called the cops on her despite saying nothing to the parents before hand.
-
When it began, or what the relatives motives were for reporting it is irrelevant. Adults cannot have sex with kids under the age of consent. That isn't a bad law. The only issue here is that they are fairly close to the ages where this would be legal.

Are you saying me that a senior in high school who is barely 18 and is still living under the support of her parents is a full-fledged adult?
