Community Focus – Kmagic101

Jul 5, 2017 - Cozmo_BNG

Our focus this week is a man of many talents. He’s a streamer, a podcaster, and an event coordinator who just helped throw one of the biggest events the community has ever hosted. We invited him to tell us more about himself and some of the work he has been doing to help the community be more connected and support a great cause.

Please give a warm welcome to Kevin, also known as Kmagic101.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and what your role is in the Destiny Community

Kevin: My name is Kevin and I'm a partnered streamer on Twitch. I started streaming Destiny over 2.5 years ago and fell in love with not just the game, but the community as well. I was fortunate enough to get involved with GuardianCon in 2016 as the Event Director and we just wrapped up our third successful year.

Congratulations on a successful event! Where can we find you on the internet?

You just worked with others in the community to put on a great show. What was it like behind the scenes planning and executing GuardianCon?

Kevin: I've worked in event planning since I was a teenager, so the transition to running this event was pretty special. The most amazing part was having it be centered on something I'm passionate about (a positive gaming community) and benefiting a great cause. It's a lot of work, especially in the final few months/weeks but the old adage about loving what you do and not working a day in your life is 100% true. This year we had minimal issues and have received nothing but compliments which is both humbling and motivating for events going forward.

You got any plans for next year you want to tease out?

Kevin: Not really a tease, but we're moving to the Tampa Convention Center which will allow us to do more and give people a more professional experience.

Moving on up! That’s exciting. So you’re not just the GuardianCon event director. Tell us about your stream and the podcast you do as well.

Kevin: I'm a part time streamer on Twitch as well. I do variety casting but Destiny has been and will always be home base. Very excited for D2 and what it has to offer the community.

I host the Jam which is a live podcast about nothing with Gothalion and ProfessorBroman. If you like mindless chatter and apple juice, stop by Goth's Twitch channel on a Wednesday night. I also do a prerecorded podcast called The Worst Radio Show with some of my best friends in the entire world about dad life, nerd stuff, and whatever else crosses our mind. It's available on iTunes and Google.

Sounds like a fun time. What is your favorite subclass and weapon?

Kevin: I primarily play PVE and Sunbreaker is the most fun for me to play in there. If I'm stepping into the Crucible I'm a shadesteppin' Nightstalker.  The Genesis Chain has been good to me in Y3. I'll test different builds and different guns but that has been my default go to since it dropped for me in the raid.

Good choices. Anything else you would like to add before we close up shop?

Kevin: Be excellent to each other.

That’s good advice and a creed we live by.

We would like to thank Kevin from taking some time to share a little slice of his life with us. You should definitely check out his channel and keep an eye out for more info about future events he is planning.
