Community Focus - Th3Jez

Our focus for this week is a Guardian who personifies the notion of “Player Versus Environment.” He comes from a land down under (read: Australia) where everything in the ecosystem is trying to kill you. He makes YouTube videos that are as informative as they are amusing—unless you are a Bungie employee. If that’s the case, they are just painful to watch.

Please give a warm welcome to Th3Jez.

Good day. Tell us a little bit about yourself and how you fit into the Destiny Community.

Jez: Hi! I'm Jez, a full-time procrastinator, part-time Destiny YouTuber. My videos range from PvP weapon guides to reading colorful Bungie.net comments to making fun of Bungie employees directly. Wait, why do you guys even talk to me again?

We have thick skins. Where can we find you on the Internet?

Jez: I make YouTube videos here, cheeky tweets here, and try not to get too salty at PvP while streaming on Twitch here.

I’m officially stealing the phrase “cheeky tweets.” What is your favorite Subclass and weapon?

Jez: Any good Hand Cannon and any Class that's NOT STORMCALLER. I'm not salty, you're salty.

“Not Stormcaller” is an acceptable answer. So you live in Australia. Everything I know about Australia I learned from Crocodile Dundee and Foster’s commercials. Are those sources accurate?

Jez: One stereotype that's true about us is that our wildlife WILL try to kill you. A few weeks ago, I watched a big, black snake slither past my front door and around the corner (this sounds made up—I wish it were). Every time I leave my house, it's hide and seek with the big, hard-to-see spider between me and my car. Other than that, 10/10, I would recommend you come check us out.

You heard it folks, drop bears confirmed! We’ve enjoyed your agonizing breakdowns of our Streams. How did those come to be?

Jez: When I was just starting out on YouTube, I heard More Console say, "To be successful on YouTube, make great content and then just inject your personality into it." That inspired me to make the stream awkward/funny moment videos which essentially launched my channel.

Two years later, I told that story to More Console himself in an outdoor Jacuzzi, at midnight, in the middle of a pine tree forest in America after visiting Bungie's studio. I'm a lucky guy.

I’m kind of jelly I was not invited to this hot tub party. Who are some of the other creators in the Destiny community you look up to?

Jez: From day one, I've been inspired by Gothalion and Pro Bro. The way they cultivate a positive, welcoming environment online has trickled down into what I believe to be the best community in gaming.

The other legend to me is MTashed. Meeting that handsome devil in America after making videos alongside him for two years is a memory I'll always cherish.

Our community is full of great leaders. Thank you for being among them. Any final words?

Jez: Thanks for not blacklisting me, and also please change Special Ammo.

Jez has quite a stockpile of videos for you to go back and watch. Stop by his YouTube channel and check them out.

Tune in next week for another community member for our focus. If you have someone in mind, post them on our forum with tag #CommunityFocus.
