Community Focus -– Husky Raid

There have been strange reports from all across the Community - whispers of highly choreographed dance numbers that take advantage of all the particle effects that Destiny has to offer. After a long investigation, we have located the source of these videos and brought them in for questioning.

Welcome to your Community Focus. Start off by sharing a bit about what you do in the Destiny Community.

Husky Raid: Thanks so much for having us! Basically, we create entertaining and humorous content in Destiny. We dance, sing, tweet, live stream, produce a machinima series, and host our weekly podcast: Husky Radio. We’re are just a big group of friends that work together to make fun content. The core Husky Raid members are Kyle (Boisterousbiddy), Scott (MegaMagwitch), Will (SuperStartop) and Sean (G1vMEE uh han).

Dancing, singing, acting: The classic triple threat. Where all can we go to see these videos and keep in touch with you online?

Husky Raid: Our YouTube channel, YouTube.com/c/HuskyRaid, is where you'll find pretty much all our content. Our podcast can be found on YouTube or via your iTunes Podcast app on your phone. We're also very active on Twitter (@HuskyRaidGuys) which is by far the best way to interact with us. It’s the place we make bad puns and poorly made Photoshops, if that’s what you’re into.

One of your most popular series is the amazing dance videos you put together. Tell us a bit about the process behind thinking these up and then actually filming them.

Kyle: It starts with a song that sets our hearts ablaze with the desire to dance. The two biggest steps are mixing the music and planning the choreography. Mixing the music basically consists of squishing different parts of the song together in order to get what we need. If you’ve ever danced or thought about dancing before, you probably know that the flow and feel of the music is essential if you’re going to lay down the moves. That’s why we take a lot of time and effort to make sure the music is exactly what we want. Once the mix is complete the choreography is completely written out. To start, each dancer’s specific starting subclass perks, armor, Emote, grenade, and weapon loadout is planned. From there each move you see on screen is choreographed, including when and where each character needs to pop a synth or switch to a different weapon, armor piece, or Emote. There’s also parts of the dance where “mass chaos” is choreographed. That’s my favorite part because it’s the easiest. After that’s ready, we find a time to film. Our latest dance, a spooky Michael Jackson medley entitled “Saw Something Weird on the Moon,” took about 4.5 hours to rehearse and film once we all got together.

Husky Raid: Kyle is the mastermind behind these things. We really just do what he says, and try to keep filming under 8 hours, which normally doesn’t happen. For us, there’s just a lot of patience needed. We observe things as they sound and look on our screens, which never translates to what Kyle ends up recording because of the delay when we hear the audio coming through his headset. So there’s some deal of trust on our part that it in fact does look good rather than a bunch of supers and grenades being tossed at random.

Wow! That is a lot of time… and patience. You also do a popular original series title “Destiny Cops.” What can people expect if they check out the stories of Officer Tragus and Officer Winters?

Scott: Well, as the main writer I think I can say with zero bias or hubris that you can expect hilarity, intense drama, and heartbreak. Season One chronicles the continuous misadventures of our loveable heroes/partners Tragus and Winters in their quest to solve the biggest case of a lifetime. Along the way, they encounter Fallen heroes, evil* Warlocks, and dimension hopping monsters. Unfortunately, they are constantly screwing up, but their hearts are always in the right place. Who am I kidding though, the only real reason to watch is the theme song.

Luckily for anyone interested in checking the show out now Season One is completely finished so they don’t have to wait for our horribly slow release time between episodes. Even more luckily, we are currently hard at work on an even bigger and better Season Two. And this time we are committed to a regular release schedule.

*[Editors’ Note: Warlocks are not evil. They are finest beings in the Tower.]

We look forward to seeing what you come up with in Season Two. Which Subclasses and weapons are your favorites?

Kyle: Stormcaller, because Warlocks are the best and everyone knows it [Sic]. The other members will say different subclasses because they are in denial that Warlocks are the master race. We can only hope that one day they will see the light. Also, my favorite weapon is the Bolt-Caster because that thing is sick.

Scott: Nightstalker is the only correct answer. Shadestep is bae and a great super for making orbs to help out those lesser Subclasses. Throw on the Bones and you quickly become the best jumper on the Raid team. Toss on the FR0ST-EE5 and Memory of Felwinter and now you are an unstoppable Melee and Grenade machine. There is nothing you can’t do as a Nightstalker. As far as weapons go, my current favorites are the latest Iron Banner weapons. Particularly My Lingering Song with Luck in the Chamber. My all-time favorite though will always be Zhalo because I am a PvE man and love mowing mobs down on Arc Burn.

Sean: Hunter. That’s it. There was a time back in Y1 when the hard mode Raid was launched where I thought of making a Warlock simply for the self-res of the Sunsinger. I couldn’t do it. I have a secondary female Hunter that I created for filming purposes, and a Titan. The Titan I made when PoE came out and running dub-bubs was a thing to get past some of the waves. I would say 99% of my time spent in Destiny is on my Hunter. As for weapons, ever since Halo 2, I’ve been a sniper. Maybe that’s why I love the Hunter. Not having buffed Armor/Health requires stealth play from afar, which plays nicely into the Hunter style. Also Shadestep is bae.

Will: Defender Titan. It’s a tough, thankless job. Especially since Hunters became the main orb-makers in TTK, but somebody’s gotta do it. And that’s me. I’m the guy who loves the Thorn way too much, but the best weapon in the game is clearly the SUROS TYR-14. Why else would Shaxx gift it to you personally?

When you are not making sweet dance numbers, what are your favorite Destiny activities?

Kyle: Taniks Strike.

Scott: Taniks Strike. Gotta help clear these streets of Fallen monsters.

Sean: Trials of Osiris. Taniks Strike. (Note: this was not edited by the other members of Husky Raid)

Will: Taniks Strike. Nowhere else in the game are you challenged in the ways of old.

Sounds like you all really like Taniks Strike. D you have any future projects or dance videos you want to tease out?

Husky Raid: Destiny Cops Season Two is just about entirely written, and filming has already begun. It will be quite a while till you’ll see our favorite officers’ next adventure, but we have some fun plans coming up for other projects. As for another dance video… keep your dancing shoes close. You’ll be needing them sooner than you think.

We will all keep a look out for something weird to happen somewhere in the solar system. In the meantime, if you want to see their past dancing adventures, or catch up with Destiny Cops, check out their YouTube channel.

We are not done focusing on this Community. There are still many stories to tell. You got one? Let us know on the Community forum with the tag #CommunityFocus.
