This Week at Bungie – 08/18/2016

Aug 18, 2016 - Cozmo_BNG

This week at Bungie we revealed Private Matches.

We’ve been so eager to finally share with you the long-awaited Crucible feature you’ve all been clamoring for. You may have thought we would save that juicy piece of info for the very end of the stream, but we had kept the secret for long enough. That's why we dropped it in the first 15 seconds of the ViDoc, Forged in Fire, that rolled at the beginning of the stream. If you haven’t watched it already, it tells a great story about everything that awaits you in Rise of Iron. Go and watch it now. We’ll wait.

After kicking off the livestream with the ViDoc, DeeJ, Lars Bakken, and Steve Cotton took a dive into the details of Private Matches and Supremacy, a new Crucible Game Type in Rise of Iron. Two teams made up of community members and Destiny team players battled each other in the world first “public” Private Match. If you missed the stream, you can also watch it right here. Again, we’ll wait.

That wasn't the only news to come out this week. Christopher Barrett also hinted at another upcoming change to reward packages.

We're not done showing you glimpses of your next adventure. There are also a few more streams going on tomorrow. You can see the full schedule here.

Tune in and learn more from your fellow Guardians.

Private Match Makers

We knew as soon as you learned of the ability to easily organize matches in Destiny that your imaginations would run wild. We made sure you had some guidelines ready for those of you who fancied yourselves event organizers who wanted to host a tournament. If that sounds like you, give our Competition License a read before you start.

If you're looking to join a thriving competitive scene, rather than build your own, our old friends at MLG are welcoming Destiny Clans to register for a shot at glory on GameBattles. Check it out!

Competitions are not the only thing Private Matches opens up. We know how creative you are and can’t wait to see how you'll use this feature to surprise us. We also have our own ideas on how to have some fun with this. Perhaps we could change up the way Bungie Bounties work?

Dropping Knowledge

Every day behind the scenes men and women of the Player Support team are working hard to ensure you have the answers to the questions you ask us on Twitter. You will often see us forward you to their Knowledge Based articles, and there are plenty of new ones to read below.

Destiny Experience on Legacy Consoles

On August 16th, 2016, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles received Destiny Update 2.3.1.2. This update enabled the Account Import process for these consoles. This is a one-time process that splits progress between console generations. After an account has been imported, this cannot be undone.

Legacy Consoles did not receive this update, and will not receive major Destiny updates or content releases moving forward. Destiny will remain on Update 2.3.1.1 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 Legacy Consoles. Progress is no longer shared between console generations. If a Legacy player wishes to upgrade to a current generation console in the future, they may import any progress made on a Legacy Console after August 16th, 2016 using the Account Import process. This may only be done a single time. For more information, please see the Legacy Console Guided Support.

The Destiny experience has also changed on Legacy consoles. Please note the following:

  • Legacy Console players may no longer receive their Moments of Triumph T-Shirt code on their Year Two Triumphs page on Bungie.net.
    • Legacy Console players are no longer able to access Character data on Bungie.net, which includes the completion of the Year Two Moments of Triumph Record Book and T-Shirt code.
    • Players may continue to make progress and earn in-game rewards from their Year Two Moments of Triumph Record Book through September 20th, 2016 on Legacy Consoles.
    • Players who complete their Year Two Moments of Triumph Record Book on Legacy Consoles may still generate a T-shirt code, only if they perform an account import on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One prior to 11:59 PM PDT on October 4th. For more information, follow this link.
  • Destiny Events and Activity Availability have changed for Legacy Console players.
    • Iron Banner and Trials of Osiris Crucible Events will be available through the end of August. After this, Legacy Console players will no longer see these activities.
  • Silver Purchases are no longer available on Legacy Consoles.
    • Players may still purchase items from Eververse Trading co. with Silver that is already present on their account.

All information concerning the Destiny experience on Legacy Consoles may be found within the Legacy Console Guided Support on help.bungie.net.

This week you will probably want to equip a sniper as special weapon damage is favored and you will receive bonus points for precision kills. Make sure you also switch to your primary often, as Juggler will prevent ammo drops for your equipped weapon. This week is another chance for you to break the 2 month winning streak SdBattlefront’s Fireteam has going. Do you have it in you?

Favorite Films

You want movies? We got movies. There are a whole bunch of movies on the Creations page right now. Every week, we select a Movie of the Week and a few Honorable Mentions to show off right here. The creators are awarded with special Emblems. If you helped out in a winning video and didn’t receive an Emblem, make sure your player names are listed in the description of the video and PM me a message on Bungie.net with a link and I will get it sent.

Movie of the Week:  RIP The Dream

Honorable Mention: Finish him!

Rise of Iron is just one month away. Soon you will find out for yourselves what it means to become an Iron Lord, discover the mysteries in the new Raid, and kick back and relax in some Private Matches with your friends. We are excited to see you finally get your hands on the latest Destiny adventure.

When the away team gets back from gamescom next week, we will talk more - maybe even share some info about the next event we'll be attending. This train doesn't stop.
