Community Focus - Overwatch Gaming

If you’ve been a long time reader of the community focuses of the past, you may remember names like Moreconsole, LittlebigOkey, or even Byf. They’re all part of a Clan of people from around the UK called Peasant Guard - which is mostly made up of Destiny content creators. We haven’t seen their official bylaws, but entrance into their club seems to require skills with a weapon, a personal content channel, and a really fancy dialect. Meet another YouTuber from their ranks. His name is Martin from Overwatch Gaming.

Welcome to your community focus. How would you describe your role in the Destiny community?

Martin: My name's Martin and I've been a part of this community for a while now, making videos ever since early 2013 when we first heard about Destiny. I've been a hardcore Bungie fan ever since I first stepped into Halo: Combat Evolved.

Early 2013? Wow! You have been at it since the first reveal. Lead us to your castle on the World Wide Web?

Martin: You can find me primarily on my YouTube channel and Twitter. Occasionally, I also post some wallpapers and other graphics based on Destiny on the side to my Deviant Art.

Love the wallpapers, I’m using a Suros one on my desktop. What is your favorite subclass and weapon?

Martin: Titans have always been my go-to class. I love the options available and aesthetics of them.  All Titan subclasses are fun, really, but a lot of the time I find myself defaulting to Sunbreaker, it has some really nice perks for both PvE and PvP, especially the ability to smash opponents head-on at ridiculous speeds with Suncharge. It's also pretty fun crashing down on enemies with Fist of Havoc or pummeling an entire team that walks into my Ward of Dawn. The Peregrine Greaves are probably one of the most fun and coolest looking exotics in the game, in my opinion.

My favorite weapon for PvP as of the April Update would have to be the glorious Hawkmoon, loved that thing pre-nerf in year 1 and glad to see it back. For general use across PvE I like to use the Suros DIS-43. That has been one of my favorite weapons to use in the Taken King ever since picking it up from the second Armsday. The exotic swords and Sleeper Simulant were also some excellent additions!

I’ve been playing some Defender Titan lately as well, fun stuff. What invitation would you issue to players who have yet to browse your YouTube Channel?

Martin: I tend to post just about anything I enjoy and that I think others may as well, ranging from news/updates, showcases, guides, and more. I don't think I have a specific "thing", although I would like to start doing more content around the Crucible, as well as live stuff with friends. One of my personal favorite videos is the lore video I made on Gjallarhorn a year ago.

That Gally video was a great watch. Where do you spend most of your time in Destiny?

Martin: Whenever I'm not grinding any new update, chasing any new Exotics or some sweet Raid gear, I mostly enjoy spending my time facing off against other Guardians in the Crucible. PvP has always kind of been my favorite activities in any shooter, there's a lot more fun and excitement knowing there's another person on the other end. The combination of tense gameplay and sweet loot is why I love the game.

By that logic, would the tensest moment in your history as a Guardian be your favorite? What is your best memory from playing Destiny?

Martin: I don't think it's possible for me to pick a single memory, I've had so many over the past two years; getting my hands on the Alpha for the first time and seeing the world through my own eyes, Raiding with Peasant Guard is always a good time and playing with friends I've met through this community.

Destiny has come a long way since the Alpha. Is there anything you would you like to add or change about Destiny?

Martin: Custom Games would be a good place to start. Being able to setup our own games with our own rules and being able to adjust every single little player trait would be awesome! I know a lot of people would also enjoy a way to create our own maps or view Destiny's gorgeous landscapes through theater mode. Oh, and more locations... and more cinematic cut scenes... and bigger bosses... and more gear customization options... and, well you get it. There's all sorts of ways that the game could grow and that's what keeps me excited about Destiny; the potential.

Go give the Overwatch Gaming channel a browse. You can never have too many sources for Destiny content.

If you have a player or group that you would enjoy seeing featured as a future Community Focus, please post your idea on our Community forum with the tag #CommunityFocus.

Edited 5-5-16: We have a small correction. Martin is actually British not Scottish. He says his accent is often mistaken as Scottish or Irish. I updated the intro, but the Titan joke stays.
