SMS Validation

To help combat cheating within Destiny 2 on PC, free-to-play players will now be required to verify their SMS prior to their participation in certain pinnacle level activities. Players who have purchased a Destiny 2 Expansion will be able to gain access to restricted activities with or without SMS verification.

Pinnacle level activities that will require SMS verification include:
  • Trials of Osiris
  • Competitive Crucible
  • Iron Banner


Verification Setup


When launching into an SMS restricted activity for the first time, free-to-play players on PC will be prompted to set up verification for their account. Verification will be required for free-to-play players on PC, but can be optionally enabled for other players from their Bungie.net profiles.

To complete verification, free-to-play players will need to:

  1. Launch into an SMS restricted activity when playing on PC, and receive a pop-up requesting SMS verification 
  2. Click the "Verify Now" button. This will redirect players to Bungie.net
  3. Sign into their Bungie.net profile
  4. Enter their phone number in the space provided and request a verification code
  5. Enter the verification code sent to their phone number

Once completed, players will be set to participate in any SMS restricted activity. SMS verification is a one time setup and is not required every time players launch into a restricted activity.

PLEASE NOTE!

At launch players may be unable to change their linked phone number for SMS validation. This option will be fully supported in a future update.

Troubleshooting 


SMS validation is required for free-to-play Destiny 2 PC players, and is not required for free-to-play players on other platforms, or players who have purchased a Destiny 2 expansion on PC.

Players who do not receive a validation code within 5 minutes of entering their phone number will need to re-enter their phone number and request another validation code. SMS validation may also be unavailable for players during periods of Bungie.net and API maintenance.

I've completed verification on the site, how do I get access to the locked activities?
If you are in game when you verify your phone number, you’ll want to sign out and sign back in to gain immediate access. Otherwise you will have access on your next sign in.

Can I share someone else's phone number if I don't have one of my own?
Yes. A single phone number can be used up to a maximum of 5 accounts.

What kind of phone number can I use?
Currently only cell phone numbers can be used – we do not allow land line or VOIP numbers at this time.
