are we playing Destiny wrong?

Obviously there is no "wrong way" to play a game like this but I can't shake the feeling that many of us are not playing it, raids really, the way that a developer would expect (and rpg players). Tl;dr - Most of us are coordinating the classes/abilities in our fireteam for max damage and defense. Games with group raids and multiple classes tend to have roles that broadly cover healer, tank, damage dealer. Destiny breaks that mild in many ways but still takes from it. Let's look at the ideal fireteam for Crota's End for example: Titan Defender - ward of dawn with blessing of light to give all players extra shielding Titan Striker - fist of havoc to clear out mobs (lamps, 2nd bridge totem defense, Deathsinger room) Warlock Voidwalker - nova bombs to clear out mobs Warlock Sunsinger - song of flame to reduce all cool downs for nearby allies - switch to fireborn at 2nd checkpoint to revive team of everyone dies (or to cheese the bridge on normal) Hunter Bladedancer - easiest to solo lamps - Swordholder to take down Crota with invis since they can stay on the platform beside Crota and get the most hits in per kneel 6th person should be any of the above classes and rotate supers with similar teammate. This fireteam provides the most defense and quick damage but usually a fireteam is formed the following way: - we each have reached a certain point with one character and want to finish the encounter with that one - we find others wanting to finish it on their character with the same problem - random classes assembled and play A fireteam without a defender titan is nuts. Not bringing a Bladedancer to Crota prolongs the encounter for most teams. I think the right way is to bring the right classes and abilities to get through quickly then run it again with the alternates.

 • I agree completely. I have been thinking and trying to coordinate raids this way. Tough to do. This game is built for some major adjusting of stats and groups together. Seems like the community as a whole is just touching the surface. Not to mention adjusting stats on characters and pairing exotic armed for individual fights. Like Titan striker for lamp run with aramatrian chest piece. Aftermath fist of havoc with lingering effects on fist of havoc and pulse grenade. The destruction and space you can give your team with lingering effects and two grenades is huge. I think as the game evolves and more people group up this will be huge part of future raids.
