Grammy's 'Album of the Year' Rant

So the Grammys just ended and as usual the best album of the year was announced last and the nominees for the honor were: 1989 – Taylor Swift Sound & Color – Alabama Shakes To Pimp a Butterfly – Kendrick Lamar Traveller – Chris Stapleton Beauty Behind the Madness – The Weeknd Aside from the jokes of including 1989 and Beauty Behind for best albums, it seemed pretty decent list of top albums of the year. Although it was pretty clear from the get go who was going to win album of the year, not only for average review scores but also for social impact and innovation the album brought forth, which is what matters in the music industry when you give out top honors, right? RIGHT? We'll, who won you ask? -blam!-ING 1989 FROM TAYLOR SWIFT TAYLOR -blam!-ING SWIFT Load of absolute shit and everybody knows it. No way an album that averages 76 out of 100 on reviews should or could possibly win over an album that averages a 96 and has been widely considered the highest rated album of it's genre ever released, of course not that review scores should matter despite being spot on this time. This is literally an insult to all the work put into that album by Kendrick and all his collaborators, who happen to be considerably more talented and versatile than Taylor Swift could even dream of. What good has 1989 done to the world that TPAB did not? Hell 1989 didn't do any actual good to the world to begin with, it's just another album. It didn't change lives or peoples views on certain touchy or taboo subjects. Nothing, it's just another above average album that's catchy with not much substance to it but is exactly what the masses enjoy, a pure sellout album (1989 is considered TS's first official pop album, departing totally from her country roots). God forbid they actually have to listen and understand actual constructed lyrics that don't fly over their heads on the first listen, but that would be asking too much of them. This is exactly what is wrong with music nowadays, albums that innovate and bring variety to the barren landscape that is currently mainstream music and have the power to have an effect on it aren't recognized as they should. Although he deserved the award, Kendrick will no doubt always value his fans appreciation way above it, as it should be. It just pains me yet again he's been robbed, same as with GKMC. Still happy for all the other awards he rightfully deserved, especially best collab for 'These Walls' with Thundercat (who I met on Saturday) and amazing Anna Wise. Oh yeah, he also lost 'Best Song' to Ed Sheeran. Absolutely retarded. Happy to see D'Angelo won awards he rightfully deserved and sad to see Tame Impala, Wolf Alice, Courtney Barnett and Hiatus Kaiyote not win theirs. What were your thoughts on this years Grammys?
