Some people are fat because of genetic/glandular problems but a majority are fat because of their own choices.

It's under 1%

Edited by Blonic : 2/4/2015 3:32:31 PMBecause of these problems, people with those problems don't need as many calories as others. The calories in and calories out thing still applies. It may be a little more difficult, but those people cannot blame genetics as the main source of their weight problem.

Edited by LiamCDM: 2/4/2015 8:59:26 PMIt usually isn't genetics but in some rare cases it is. My mother is a bit overweight and she barely eats 2 meals a day! I'm guessing she has some kind of chemical imbalance or genetic problem but I don't know. You are right 90 percent of the time though; and this is coming from an overweight teenager not some skinny kid.

Honestly, this is a nature vs nuture sort of thing and ultimately, people decide what and how much they put into their bodies. Now, you do say your mother is a bit overweight and eats only 2 meals. My concern is that maybe she eats two big meals and then lots of snacks in between, I don't know because I am not your mother or someone who knows her that well. The calories can add up really fast. I also noticed no mention of exercise. Does she exercise a lot or not at all?

She never exercises and barely eats at all. She'll have some coffee for breakfast skip lunch and have a little bit of food for dinner.

So she isn't getting anywhere close to the daily recommended calorie intake? People can still gain weight by eating too few calories by a significant amount. The body will just store everything she eats.

Ohhh.
