I was perched high up in the rocks overlooking a cabal firebase, nestled in nice and tight, been there for more than a while now, getting tired, eyes were stinging from the sand and I was getting low on water. My target was supposed to have been here by now, seems my Intel is off, boredom had set in and I decided to start picking off a few random stragglers that made the mistake of getting separated. Suddenly the sky blackened, at first I thought I had succumbed to the conditions and passed out, but no, he had arrived. I spun round and saw my target, a cabal centurion, I raced over, my kill window was tight, swung my icebreaker from off my back and started unloading, I felt a wry smile form as I watched his shields wilt before me and the panic in his face spread. But then something happened I wasn't expecting, he vanished, into thin air, then a message over comms followed "6 out of 8 checkpoints"!!!! WTF happened, I had only engaged mere seconds before, I was assured I had a 5 minute window and it's now virtually closed and he is somehow on the other side of the firebase. But just when I thought all was lost I get an update, I have been awarded gold stars the target has been eliminated, now I am really confused, so I make my way over to his last known position, there is a figure stood there, I raise my weapon, but it's futile, he already has me locked in "steady there guardian" he says with a grin, "seems this fella gave you the slip", "don't worry happens to the best of us" he says, we both know it doesn't happen to him,"he came down that slope there chuckling deeply to himself, must have thought he was home and dry, but then he met me"said my new acquaintance, judging by the broken and shattered remains of that centurion it wasn't a pleasant meeting either. The stranger started moving off without saying a word, I stood there watching him go. Just before he left earshot I plucked up the courage and shouted out to him asking his name. I got a faint response carried on the wind..................Smoggy. And then he was gone.
