One of my favorite youtubers made a video on how introducing trading in the upcoming DLC will benefit the game AND increase playtime for all players. I also think it should be added, if you agree bump this thread so Bungie and others can see this. I encourage you to watch the video as the guy brings a lot of good points(Do note that the video is 13 minutes long), and if you can, share it with others.
Thank you for your time.
Edit #1: I appreciate the mixed opinions on the topic, keep on leaving your thought and suggesting how it can be viable (Or why there shouldn't be trading).
Edit #2: Nice, this post is now trending. People have different feelings on the subject, but most of them have good points nonetheless!
Edit #3: Okay, after reading a lot of people's responses, here are some of the methods many agreed on when trading gets added (Keep in mind, not all of these should apply):
*) Allowing members in the Fireteam in a Raid/Nightfall to trade what RNG has given to them, at a fixed time limit (60 Minutes sounds fair), and once the trade time expires, they can no longer trade with each other.
*) Exchanging Materials (Marks, Commendations, Raid Materials), and ONLY the same sort of Materials (Like trading Hunter's Material for Warlock/Titan material only, no trading it towards Shards/Energies).
*) Player must be at least a level 28 in order to trade.
*) Add more content into the game to make free trading viable (In otherwords, an exotic for an exotic trade, Legendary for a Legendary trade).
*) Introducing a Clan Vault to allow players in the Clan to trade with each other. Some have suggested to have new members wait for 30 days before they can trade, the same if they leave and wish to join a different Clan (A total of a 60 days gap to discourage farmers to sell exotics).
We're getting there Guardians, keep on leaving ideas to make it happen!

I have a solution. Make that the Christmas present. Make it a one time only deal where you can trade an exotic for exotic or legendary for legendary, one item only, for one week only.

2 RepliesRight off the bat I totally think trading should be in destiny. It should have been from the beginning and as everyone has heard by now from the early videos was planned to be. Let's start with the "you have to earn you gear" crowd. You are all childish idiots. Stop acting like this video game is a job. Every thing you have ever got in this game except for the items you bought from Xur with coins that you received after doing the weekly has been from the luck of the RNG. Those items were bought because you were given a task that had a garrenteed reward of coins. Therefore no luck was involved. You have "earned" nothing. Stop using that argument against trading because it is not valid. Now for the, "this will turn into WOW" people. Do you realize the actual amount of people world wide that play WOW? Do you understand how difficult it is to track what goes on in a game with that many players? So gold farming was bound to happen and guess what, they still have trading in WOW and people still play WOW and trading was not the apocalypse that brought down WOW. If Bungie was going to bring in trading why does anyone think that they wouldn't have fail safes in place to prevent things from causing issues in the game? You wouldn't be able to trade your way to lvl 32 as I've read in some of these posts. For example look at the trade system in the game Dead Island. Any player could trade any item with any other play at any lvl however players cannot use items until they were at the same lvl as the item. So for example say I was a lvl 32 and got a lvl 20 rare scout rifle in a drop. I have no use for it because, one I don't like them and two I'm 32 and rare's are useless to me now. However I have a friend how just started playing and is at lvl 3. If I was to trade that scout to him, say for some materials I need to upgrade a legendary item we should be able to make that trade. He is still not going to be able to use the weapon until he hits lvl 20. As we all know by the time he hits 20 chances are he would have found one but this way I got to help out a fellow player. Even if you don't like that aspect of trading I get it. However there is no intelligent argument against allowing trading with in a fire team as long as the items are the same, (rare for rare, exotic for exotic) and players can't use them until they are at the items lvl. If you want to say trading doesn't start till lvl 20 fine, that actually sound like a better idea but let's be totally honest here. There is no valid, intelligent arguments against trading. There are only personal opinions why not to have it.

Edited by Psyko_Dad: 1/2/2015 12:12:12 PMDestiny should get a trading system when it's a proper MMO with a proper player-economy. Maybe Destiny 2? (wishfull thinking)

NMEHowdy. - old
I like the idea... Have more people to accompany you in the Raids... More playability and more play quality... While the item I received still has to be upgraded, even if it was previously maxed out, vice versa... And my friends can join me more if I have armor I don't want, but THEY do... Yeah. Could totally see this. -
Void bump.

Like and bump bump bump like like like bring this nowwwwwwww thanks
-
So people can get divorced for sleeping around for guns and armour like in WoW? No thanks :D
-
If we add trading then add it without restrictions and remove xur to balance the amount of exotics you can acquire.

1 ReplyI agree with all trading

1 ReplyNot sure about only allowing high level players to trade. Sounds too elitist for me.

13 RepliesBecome Legend (by paying some fat guy $35 thru Paypal for all his old gear and skipping all the content and hard work that the rest of us had to go through) I know that's not the examples he gave in this video, but we all know that trading would eventually become this. The game is about looking at your character and remembering where, when and how you earned your shit. As cheesy as that sounds, that is meaningful. If anyone could get anything without some effort it wouldn't be meaningful anymore. Sure, RNG decides all, but you still gotta play the match/strike/raid. Implement trading and you dont have to do a thing, and I personally am not on board with that.

Edited by loonigus: 1/2/2015 9:05:13 AMIam not strictly against that, but any form and I mean ANY GODDAMN form of trading attracts scammers and ppl wanting to make money from stupid ppl. Are you so blind to not see the risks of such trading system? He was speaking about an open trading system that would not extend any playtime, but rather ruin it. This game would be a gold mine for scammers, chineese farmers, bot accounts and give even more initiative to afk trough strikes. Strikes, pvp would be full of afking loot farmers. As I said... Iam not against ALL forms of trading, but for gods sake not in such form as in the video. PLEASE!!!! Trading shards, materials or other not fundamental commodities is fine, but NOT weapons or armor!!! To fix the raid "frustration" regarding loot can be done in a form of marks or coins (form of comendations) and then grabbing whatever armor or weapon one might like. Also noticed in the video as he mentions that new players need atleast a MONTH before they can enjoy "end game content" I mean is he srsly retarded? All his credibility went to the trash bin in the end tbh... Leveling up to 20 takes what? Maybe 7 to 8 hours? Or 6 hours if someone grinds trough the levels. And what the fuk is a month in terms of reaching end game content in an MMO? Lmao... Diablo, WoW or god knows what else other MMO(RPG) players can tell what means a month of gameplay in most MMOs... NOTHING... It took me 1 to 3 years to reach end game in most MMOs or MMORPGs. A month is nothing.

20 RepliesEdited by Lion Winz: 1/2/2015 4:47:48 AMTrading can work but it needs rules. Trading is unlocked at level 20. Special event gear and weapons can NOT be traded. Eg: Raids, Iron Banner, Queen's Wrath, Trials of Osiris. No mix matching. Weapons for weapons. Armor for armor. Etc. After a trade, that item returns to an un-leveled state. (If it was leveled at all). All exp and materials put into the weapon/armor is lost. (Like Xur's trading system) You can only trade for the same rarity. Exotic for exotic. Legendary for legendary. Etc. Each item can only be traded ONCE. Weapons can only be traded with other weapons of the same attack. You can't trade a 300 attack Ice Breaker for a 331 attack Bad Juju. That's all I can think of right now. I'm sure there are a few more rules that can be implemented so that trading would not be exploited.

Yes!!!

let us trade commodities at the very least !

1 ReplyDefinitely. I would trade one of my several gjallahorns for 10,000 glimmer in a heartbeat!
-
Lololol u realize that most people have every single piece of gear in game alrdy and a crapload of duplicates??? Bungie needs more items a shit ton more b4 trading is even relevant
-

1 ReplyCounter Strike: GO has multitudes of websites where players can set up trades. They can trade item(s) to item(s), or even pay real money....You want to pay someone 100 bucks for a jellyhorn? That is what trading would devolve into.
-
Or make it like Xur. You can only trade one time a week on friday or saturday. Exotic for Exotic and so on.
-
Trading is currently impossible for this game.. Sorry
