So then what would stop people from buying mats with vanguard marks then trading the mats back in for crucible marks? If you want crucible gear you should have to grind crucible. End of story.

i really dont get why cant bungie make everyone happy and have both. this way players have the option to sell mats for points whether its crucible or vanguard or sell points for mats, it'd be a win win i'll be honest i got really disappointed when they changed it to using points for materials and went back to PC gaming and now my Xbox has just been sitting and collecting dust, i havent turned it on ever since they took off material exchange because now it seems that the only way to remove the mats from my vault is to make a whole new character play and finish the first chapter, talk to the speaker take, the extra mats from the vault and than delete the character. and that a major pain in the @55 for me to do all that

It is the "GameStop" economy. Basically, it would not be an even exchange. If you bring back the old exchange at the old rate, you are effectively getting five Marks for fifty Materials. You are spending ten Marks to buy twenty Materials, right now. So, when you buy them, you are paying half a Mark, per material; but when you sell them, you were getting a tenth of a Mark in return. Effectively, they cost five times more than you could have sold them for, in the old economy. The issue is that, in order to "add value" to Materials, they have actually devalued them. Basically, Bungie listened to the community, when it collectively said that Materials were "harder" to come by than they should have been (which I personally disagree with). So, in an attempt to remove the aspect of being able to grind for Materials, you could then turn around and buy them - but they still occur in the wild with the same frequency. They did nothing to address the grind aspect, because people now have an excess of a "reward" from an effort that can either just be stored or discarded. But, the expectation is that now, since you can buy them, they have become worthless to gather in any other way.

  • Most PVE players (including myself) aren't that great at crucible. So you know what that means when we're forced to grind crucible matches for a crucible item we want ? Low quality PVP matches. More chances of people getting thrown into terrible teams, only getting 2 marks for losing. Getting thrown into a losing team in the middle of a match. Etc. The material grind wasn't even bad if you took the time to look up decent routes. But go figure, everyone wars to be lazy and complain about that. So Bungie, being the extremely smart dev's that they are (not really) decided to add material to vendors purchasable by marks. AND add materials to the patrol bounties. The simple solution was the second thing they did. Add materials to patrol bounties and keep material exchange. Then it wouldn't even be possible to trade Vangaurd marks to crucible and vice versa.

  • Now if only we could trade in our useless ascendant materials for planet materials. That would be the cat's pajamas.

  • To get crucible gear u need rep. So regardless if u can exchange mats for marks u can't just magically turn in a bunch if mats amd by a piece of gear

  • Except factions need crucible marks too, which is another bs thing

  • The part that I dislike about that, personally, is that when doing Patrols, which are a Vanguard activity, a majority of the actual patrols are either faction-based or vendor-based. There is no reciprocation for effort at that point, which is a combination of lazy and unfair. Personally, I think that the solution is relatively simple. Apply the "Eris Mechanic" to Factions and Vendors. Build reputation for those factions by doing a combination of activities for them, directly, in the forms of Bounties and Quests. I would be fine if they even went activity-specific, based upon the type of NPC (i.e. PvE for Vendors and PvP for Factions). Then, remove the Mark caps, since Reputation is already limiting the value of the reward and the amount of time required to achieve it. By diversifying the ways to get and types of Marks, you are actually giving us more to do, at that point.

  • No. If you only had 4 bounties a day for each faction, the amount of time it would take to grind it would get ridiculous. Your idea makes the grind more painstaking and I'm happy your opinion doesn't actually matter.

  • And, for what it is worth, I did not mean to imply to take away class items and their reputation gains, which is why I am assuming your hostility - as opposed to a normal two way discussion involving a question like "Do you mean to also remove class item reputation gains?"

  • Oh, how quaint? My opinion matters or does not matter just as much as anyone else's. The difference is, that I have tolerance for the opinions of others, and do not need to level up my Douchebaggery Rank, like you apparently need to. You would not required to grind any more than you are today, but are given the option to, if you would want to. It provides variety to the same grind, as the importance is on Reputation and not Marks. It is more about not telling people how to play the game, and letting the player choose the path. Again, it is still just my own opinion. Was not trying to force it down anyone's throat, nor be an asshole about it - which apparently runs contradictory to how you know how to communicate.

  • I'm confused by what changes you want to make. Are you saying that each faction would have bounties like Eris to increase their rank but still only take crucible marks?

  • Sorry, my comments to my comments may have confused the point. :-) The parenthetical was really just showing that I was not married to the PvE versus PvP aspect of the argument, but more around the fact that there is crossover that does not need to be there, in terms of Marks; where the "barrier to entry" is already there with Reputation. Would rather just see a Mark be a Mark, and get rid of the cap, on a personal level. Then, if you actually did something like a cross of PvP and PvE bounties for each, you could have Marks just be a currency, and the reputation be the only "barrier to entry". You could then spend your Marks anywhere, as they are a reward for effort - like an actual currency.

  • Okay, then I agree with your point. I think it would make more sense

  • for the 2 crucible vendors in the tower yes, not for that and every faction. It is unbalanced that NM, FWC and DO only accept crucible marks. It should be crucible for crucible, vanguard for vanguard and either or for factions

  • Just remember the original intended use of these factions were for factions wars limiting them to pvp only

  • In which case why would Vanguard rank be applied to the faction and not just Crucible? Making it only crucible marks to buy stuff from them is very one sided

  • That was scrapped though, I'll grind strikes for days but I'm locked out of 3 vendors unnecessarily simply because I dislike the frustration that comes with a pvp game type. (Don't get me wrong I'm not awful at it, i just hate turning around to an omnipotent Demi-god of a blade dancer that swings on by)

  • Because it's highly inefficient. If they want to, let em. Might have to take away the rep gain that was associated with it though.
