Dark Souls...that whole frickin' game. You have an easier time finding asshats than decent people.
I was reminded of that when I went back to that game for the first time in a while. Even with the significantly less amount of people on that game since the second one was released, there's no shortage of invaders to stop your progress when you're just trying to beat a boss.

I dunno, there's some pretty decent people. I got invaded one time, and I bowed, then the guy just stood there. Confused, I inched closer and hit him once to see if he was even there, but then he backed up and bowed back, and there were a few items on the floor. It was something around 10 humanity and a couple other items. And with that, he left. I never even got to thank him.

Yes you will run into pricks, but I have also met the some of the nicest and most helpful people as well. It comes with the territory. Either get good or get out. Otherwise your in for a world of hurt. I am a SL 1 invader and I show no mercy to those I invade, but will help them after the fact if they aren't super butthurt.

Isn't a little more fun to fight people...you know, on the same level as you? I'm assuming you do those invasions with ridiculously decked out gear, and I can hardly call that a fair fight when the person you're invading is likely just starting out.

Definitely, but after doing a SL 1 play through and all the aggregation that comes with it's fun to do some grieving. Most of the pvp I do is at level but I still have that toon for blowing off steam. I do get killed every now and again and when that happens I tend to make new friends.

Guess it works out different for everyone, whenever I run into people like that they tend to act like stuck up jerks.

I'd agree that most are. After getting out of the burg/parish it's rare to get invaded like that. No invader should dissuade you from continuing. Dark Souls is unapologetic and does not hold your hand. It is not for everyone and, at least in my opinion, that is what makes it great. If you are unwilling to persevere through the aggravation and difficulty then go play skyrim or dragon age. We will not judge you. At least the better parts of the community. Dark Souls 2 kinda holds your hand and baby's you though. I hope the next-gen re-release fixes some of that, and if not bloodborn surely will.

Edited by Masque of Night: 12/25/2014 5:00:08 PMI've had the first game since before the second one came out, but I have both and I do agree the second game is significantly easier. And the behavior of the less savory people i've met never dissuaded me from playing. Dark Souls, as a series, really is great, and each game is great for their own reasons. I've always thought so since I first picked it up. A few bad apples don't spoil the bunch, but when they're primarily what I run into it does dampen things a bit. I did run into a few kind people the other day, though. That was pretty cool.

I guess the "bad" players just stick out more. I think of it as the game providing an oppressive atmosphere and players continuing said atmosphere through gameplay. It's great when a light shines in the dark, but there is a lot more darkness beyond that light.
